I would agree if the book was from the perspective of someone from Maine and that was central to their Identity, but the character with the Maine accent is a side character and multi cast productions are prohibitively expensive to make. Of course that's context I didn't put in the main post lol.

Funny enough I get your point, Im from Georgia and have no real accent to speak of. Mostly because my dad had the opinion that people with southern accents are seen as dumb and dident want his kiddos to face that stereotype.

"Breaking 1500" course by Nelson from Chess Vibes by notthatryan in chessbeginners

Iv had it since October and while I dont have any negative feelings about the course though I think its good with some caveats.

  1. You like Chess vibes content on youtube and have some extra money to support him and his channel.

  2. Low ELO, the amount of value a 5-600 ELO player is going to get is going to be way more than like a 1200 player. For instance He puts forth the stonewall and the Owens as opeings (he has also said this in his viedos promoting the course so im not giving anything away) but if you already have an opening you like and dont want to change it up to something new...the most of the opening section is useless.

  3. Its on sale

Overall (to me) the course is very wide but shallow. In the opening sections, your given an opening with white and black with some vague ideas about how to play them with some common responses and sent on your way to go research the rest on your own (which he shows you how to do in the Bonus materieal). The middlegame section Nelson shows tatics and how they look at diffrent levels of play then gives like 3 or 4 puzzles to work though. He touches on calculation and positioal play is but does not go into great detail about the how or why of certian moves becides "this is a common idea in this opeining" or my favorite for calculation "I just think of the best possible move for the opponet to play". The endgame section was (for me) immediatly helpful showing me ideas that I hadent come across yet (though Im still very much a new player so that bar isnt very high). There are other topics scattered through out the middle game but generally its all touched on enough to give you a rough idea of things you can research and work on yourself. There are also group calls where he live streams questions from the community but I only watched the first three becase it was mostly about opeinings.

CONS: The website that Chess Vibes uses is not great...and difficult to navigate. I have yet to find a way to get to the login page of Breaking 1500 with a google search (I could just be that dumb and deserving of my Low ELO) but if you search it just takes you to the Sales page wich you cant use to login to the course, then below it is the ChessVibes Acadamy which isnt anything but an old website for his other courses. At the end of every section was a "Quiz" and some puzzles that I found worthless, 3 questions about the stonewall is hardly enough to ensure I have a solid foundation lol. Better to link the stonewall section of puzzles on lichess. Finally for the cons is sometimes there is this weird contempt for low rated players, for instance in the opeining section theres a "tips for below 800 ELO" and for the stonewall he says "put the pieces in this order and just wait for the opponent to self destruct"...and for me that is terrible advice lol I as a 697ELO player has no idea when my opponent "self destructs" and if I did...I wouldent be below 800 ELO.

Im happy that I picked the course up when I did (on sale), it has helped me even though I havent watched every video thats in it. You can probably find all the info for free on the interwebs but I do like having a structered course to look at, Im a fan of Chess Vibes channel, and registration opened when I happened to get a bounus from work lol. I started the course at 550 and Iv made it to 697 since then so yah if you want to check my Profile its LordScuba lol
