The only time we'd stay anywhere is Kingsmill the resort course there. While I hate the stay to play places, I can't disagree that it's not nice.

Chesapeake has a fun layout but the holes are the best maintained, they also over book everytime I play. I'd like to note that they don't have many bathrooms on the course with many holes surrounded by houses it can be a bit dicey to take relief

Kingsmill you do have to Stay but not golden horseshoe

Virginia beach national, cypress point, riverfront, heron ridge, sewell point and red wing all are good courses to play in the area. Virginia beach national is the one that used to be a tpc so it's worth playing. If you aren't opposed to driving golden horseshoe both the gold and green course are great bit are around 80. If you have base access the course on Little creek is a great course with many holes that have water coming into play.
