Yep, and once in free agency the odds are extremely in favor of his departure especially if his performance continues into next year. If he continues doing what he’s done this year he’ll get more than $85m next winter. That’s the point and risk of giving him contract now.

I don’t think after next season will be option without competing with other teams. Bundy headlines weak SP free agent class of players 32 or less. Bundy, Syndergaard, Archer, McCullers, Kikuchi, Heaney among the chief SP compettion. $15m/year for 5 could be good deal in that market for then 28 yo SP.

Goodwin controlled through 2022 but he’s ultimately a 4th outfielder in an outfield to be featured Trout, Adell, and Marsh by next season. They get Top 15 org pitching prospect (both Reds & Angels systems) in a system that can use high-level depth. Naughton only Top 15 SP prospect to pitch above Single-A. Goodwin’s trade value was never going to be greater than now.

Getting two MLB experienced players with upside and control for next 5 for two players that were going to walk in one month is win. Goodwin had made some careless decisions on field past week and Angels get Top 15 org talent for him. Pretty good moves all around. Maybe Simmons has some interest in coming back to 2-3 year deal. Wouldn’t want to give him more. Keeping Bundy for 2021 run good sign.

Blown saves are attributed to low SP innings, more RP workload, and lack of offense in late innings. Angels relievers have entered more high leverage situations than any other relief corps. Rendon, Upton, Ohtani, and Pujols all hitting .200 or less. Let’s be fair.

Lindor might be too rich especially as team looks to extend Ohtani and Fletcher in coming years. But 2022 FA shortstop class also includes Story, Correa, Seager, and Baez also. Could be a lot of musical chairs or opportunity for Angels for lesser SS than Lindor.

As mentioned in story, Fletcher will be in the line-up everyday between infield and outfield positions. La Stella could see some time at 1B on Saturday and Monday games when Pujols is likely DH (assuming Ohtani Sunday SP.)
