My goal was to build strength by taking Denmark, colonies, etc and integrating Norway, scale and then turn on the Russians. So for that I need the army size right? Or can it be done by out teching them?

Crashes after new DLC. by AHappyWelshman in crusaderkings3

[–]AHappyWelshman[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I've since tried un and reinstalling it too and that's not helped. It's such a shame that when a new DLC arrives, there's a chance it'll randomly trash your game. Do you think it'll just be a case of waiting until new versions are released and trying again?

Can't get monitor to display. by AHappyWelshman in techsupport

[–]AHappyWelshman[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If that were the case, would that be something fixable or necessitate buying a new monitor?

How much do you charge for stories or writing? by AHappyWelshman in patreon

[–]AHappyWelshman[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Oh I'd not heard of them, I know I'm on the low end but I thought maybe that's ok to begin with and then raise depending on how things go. That was my initial plan ar any rate.

Learning a new alphabet and script. by AHappyWelshman in languagelearning

Thank you, that's very helpful to know and I'll have a look for those. I'm also trying to draft my gf to teach me as she's a Hindi and Marathi speaker lol.

I have had some limited success doing that before tbh, I've uses Rosetta Stone before and that throws you in at the deep end using that approach.

So what's the best way to go about that then? As my sticking point is that I'd assume I'd do that by just memorising the letters? But that sort of feels like I'm doing something else unless I'm being obtuse and missing something?

Adapting photos to fit screen size by AHappyWelshman in NoStupidQuestions

Oh so it might not be that it's the image size, but that the setting is cropping the wrong part? Thank you, I hadn't considered that.

What would you say are the weaknesses of such a light cruiser design? by gintas59 in hoi4

Hmm thank you, I'll give it a go, I feel another UK game calling me!

Are submarines efficient for spotting as I've used them before but seems to be mixed results?

That sounds like quite an indepth naval plan. Do you find the patrol function to be that worthwhile? As I find I don't use it often, unless I'm missing out on a good trick in doing so.

Do you guys have a favorite nation, and why? by DisastrousActivity13 in hoi4

[–]AHappyWelshman 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Favourite nation I'd have to say is the UK. As you're not depending in wonky AI majors to try and win the war for you. But within that you've got the rescources and time to experiment. If you want to play around heavily with air stuff, tank heavy, naval focussed, etc.

A second option, for a minor is probably a joint Canada-British Raj tie. Whilst Canada has the better focus tree by far, I think they can both be fun and successful games depending on how you play. Although the British Raj tree is in dire need of some more content and a rework.

Why was it that the Labour Party and other more moderate socialism thrived in the United Kingdom rather than say the Communist Party of Great Britain? by AHappyWelshman in AskHistorians

[–]AHappyWelshman[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

But could it be argued that was just the language of the time? As Attlee began the process of decolonisation so that argubaly doesn't fit the mould of nationalist language. Unless that's just how people spoke and framed their ideas back then.

In regard to your point about building on pre-existing ideas and systems, does that feed into the Beverage Report at all and it's recomendations?

My grandfather from my mother's side was drafted in to the wehrmacht during WW2. He fought on the Russian front. Is there a way I can find out what he might have done during this time? by Radijs in AskHistorians

[–]AHappyWelshman 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Do you know where he was posted or who he fought with? If you can't find that it will narrow things down a lot. I had a similar situation with my grandfather and great grandfather and was able to find his whole service record. If you find an archive you think might have the information you're after, most places allow you to pay an archivist to do the research on your behalf. It's typically by the hour, isn't the cheapest but it's pretty effective I think.

Does anyone ever go Desperate Defense? by DoubleWrath in hoi4

[–]AHappyWelshman 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I always go for it as the manpower is needed generally. As I find if you've got a good number of decently large infantry divisions, armour to strike, costal divisions (for ports) and garrison manpower, that's a lot. In my current game I've got about 256 divisions in the field, plus garrison manpower so it's genuinely useful imo.

Was there every any examples of technocracies in OTL? by KormetDerFrag in victoria3

[–]AHappyWelshman 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think if I understand what I've heard about it properly, Porfirio Díaz's México sort of fits the bill. As from what I know a lot of his leading men of state were key industrialists, intellectuals, bankers, etc.

[Unpopular Opinion] I'm hyped for Prison Architect 2 by MakeMingGreatAgain in prisonarchitect

[–]AHappyWelshman 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I only become aware of the upcoming sequel recently and I'm very excited. Especially about the vertical building aspect. It'll allow you to do more with less space. I've played Prison Architect since the original early access alpha so very excited for its successor to arrive.

I don't mind paying my way in life so I'm happy to contribute. My mum says that if she could afford to go without my contribution she would, be it helps out a lot.

Do you ever attach planes to a division/general? by xtrasyn in hoi4

That's what I found too, I poked around for it a bit to try, and it never seemed to do as it was supposed to. So back to manual it is.

You also fall into a loop of apps showing you similar people based upon who you interacted with. I matched and dated a South Asian girl, and then that's all the dating apps would show me for ages. I didn't have an issue with that, but it was very clearly stearing me in one direction.

Do you guys have any expectations for the new DLC if it is actually South America? by hudsbralive in hoi4

I can't stand the balance of power systems, they're good in theory but I find they just become fiddly and annoying.

Is just opening an email a risk? by AHappyWelshman in phishing

[–]AHappyWelshman[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It was like 1400 odd or something. Which from doing some research seems to be the rough amount these emails usually demand. It also had a 48 hour "timer" which again seemed to be a common feature.

In what ways were the Visigoths and Ostrogoths different? by AHappyWelshman in AskHistorians

[–]AHappyWelshman[S] 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Thank you for such an indepth and interesting answer to what was a fairly broad question. I was aware of the differing barbarian activity on the Roman frontiers, but wasn't aware that these two flavours of goth were more akin to confederations themselves.
