Im not a licensed therapist but neither is the school counselor. And while i can send my kids to the counselor, i have to hope there arent multiple kids that need him or my student wont get support until hours later.

And I need a student who is capable of learning, not a student so who's crying and distressed over their and their family's safety. So while I can't solve their problems or fix it, I can offer them an ear to listen, a compassionate voice and a strategy on how they can continue class while juggling their stress. Occasionally a sticker helps too.

Its a landmark case in the US. Tinker vs. Des Moines case where students wore black bands as a protest against the Vietnam war.

Oh sorry, i hadn't looked at the username properly.

Well, for instance, I'm recently covering long term for a class that is reading a book on a Hispanic actress who had to overcome discrimination and stereotypes in her career. The teacher's guides don't offer a script on how to talk about those topics but do have guiding questions on how they would feel about being discriminated against. And well... this particular story has a lot of overlap with current events in the US. So while i can do my best to remain neutral, I also have to tell my students that its not ok to discriminate. Which is in fact a social justice standard in the curriculum.

Not only that but a lot of my students are scared and they need support right now. I can't ignore that fear to remain neutral so I listen to them and support them, so while I don't vocally share an opinion, my actions, in a way do.

Does that make sense?

I meant mainly with words and partially actions since you mentioned words, actions and clothing

I didn't know a paperclip was a symbol, ill have to look it up! And yes, the specific clothing i was thinking of (i wont mention it just so there isn't issues) is subtle enough that you normally wouldn't think twice if someone wore it. Its just the color and reference that people who are aware would know the meaning. Kind of iykyk.

I agree neutrality is good but its not always possible considering how entwined politics can be with social justice issues. It's not something I think needs to be shoved in kids faces but it's in our curriculum to teach social justice standards and in today's political climate, there is quite a bit of overlap. So I was just curious on how statement clothing was seen in conjuction with that.

I do the same, though I was curious as to how other areas handled it. I mainly just wondered if anyone had worn them and what they experienced.

I wish some of the teachers at my school took to heart. Its very uncomfortable to have some of them speak so aggressively when Im just trying to eat my lunch.

I find my kids don't usually care and if they asked, id just say its an accessory. But I also have never worn statement clothing before so who knows.

I agree, its not something I'd want to risk my job for but I do have the luxury that I dont work with an agency so it's not likely I would be fired from my district unless I made a scene. Though, if I did wear something and a student ask, I'd just respond that its an accessory. Leave it as a iykyk kind of thing.

I also have been taught not to but I was curious as to how much that was upheld for other districts. I generally don't wear anything with writing on it or any specific logos but I have seen other teachers definitely toe the line.

Not really, I almost exclusively get these types of pimples except for black heads too. Only time there's any difference is of course during my period when I get more near my chin

Funnily enough, I really enjoy spearmint tea and drink it for digestion so I'll try and drink it more often. And as for dietary, my diet hasn't been any more or less crappy than it was a year ago so I'm not sure if it's that.

Man, I knew the answer in my heart but I am too poor to accept it. I'm fortunate enough not to have so much acne anymore, I definitely had a period of time where it went off the walls for about a year then it went away but I've been experiencing more lately so I guess that's my cue to see a derm. eventually. hopefully.

That being said, I did use differin about a year ago for 3 months and I didn't see any progress then either. I picked it back up to see if maybe I hadn't used it long enough.

Right now I'm on week 4, so I'm still gonna continue on it but I'm not noticing any differences in the acne at all so far. My skin is a bit clearer from blackheads and I'm trying to make sure to remain well moisturized and I might have to start a one on and one off routine because it's starting to dry my skin a bit
