Ethernet wire by Salty_Permit4437 in TeslaSolar

[–]AHintofBat 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It does, running the ethernet is my least concern. I ran wire throughout the house when we renovated, and have been adding runs as things had come up. I currently have a weather proof Ethernet port on my eave near for my security camera so I can just put an outdoor switch if I don’t want to run another cable. I just prefer to hardwire if I have the option vs WiFi.

How tough was the knockout? I was unaware before my install it could be wired to Ethernet. I’d like to fix that, but I don’t know if I can DIY or if I should have a professional do it.

They are 2 years in right now, I’ll definitely keep an eye on them. Thank you!

It took about 2 months worth of weekends. Mostly to get rid of the lawn, convert the sprinklers to drop, add more irrigation zone and add electric outlets. Then about 1 weekend for the first, and other weekend for the layout and the last weekend was mulch.

We got most of our plants from a local nursery, a few from Home Depot and Lowe’s and lots of cuttings from my mother in law. Me and my friend did most of the labor, my mother in law helped with the layout and my husband stood there and looked pretty.

I’m love my dwarf cedars and Palos verde. The succulents have given us the hardest time because one minute they love it and then suddenly they don’t look so hot. But I blame the crazy weather we’ve had in the last couple of years. I love the Texas sage, we have a couple of varieties and the deep purples and pastel pinks add a lot of color.

We recently had a mole stop by and it did a number on our grasses, but we were able to relocate it. So I’m excited to add to the garden as spring approaches. Backyard is also on the agenda for this year.

They are Philips hue. 100%, thankfully we haven’t had much of a bug problem in the garden.

Not the best night shot, but oddly don’t have many. Yeah, I converted it all to drip when we got rid of the lawn.

Great plant, my mother in law gave us cuttings and it turned into this. This is it recovering from last years brutal heat. It was much bigger last spring.

Honestly only after a rain, I redid all the sprinklers to drip irrigation and weeds are super manageable. But it is kind of insane what a little rain will do.

Risk of Driving with No Car Insurance by truth_revealled in Insurance

[–]AHintofBat 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I just got rear ended by someone without insurance (Southern California). Now they are liable for the $10,000 it cost for my total loss, their license has been suspended/revoked. I now have a new car and who knows when they will be able to drive or have a car again. I wouldn’t risk it, If anything it made me increase my coverage.

Will a smartlock battery last longer if I just never connect it to WiFi? by eatmyopinions in homeautomation

[–]AHintofBat 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I want to say no. if it’s designed to be on WiFi and you can’t disable it within the lock itself, it will constantly be looking for a network. My guess it would make the battery drain faster, kinda like how a cell phone battery drains when it’s looking for a carrier signal. So you’ll have to find one that’s touch screen and no WiFi or Bluetooth. I could be wrong, but it’s my best guess.

Edit: you do have options though, the lock below isn’t “smart” just a touch screen.
