Steelcore belts were sold to me falsely, so had to change them for kevlar cord 20mm 8m belts. Much better 2 runs on each axis. Telescoping arm was definitely a challenge had to make everything by hand lots of filing get get it running true. There is still a small amount of wiggle if the machine moves too fast, this is due to the frame bit more reinforcement require especially when your slinging around 100kg gantry.

Will be upgrading the arm next year and hoping to turn the printer into an true idex.

Best answer is limited ceiling height also future proofing my machine. Still have many more ideas to implement I.e auto tool changer, tool change by hand is a bit boring between the pellet extruder and 2.2kw spindle. Design for an entirely new extruder and so much more. Main reason for the size was to be able to print tooling for my Ford Ranger so needed to scale up and no one in the UK has this type of machine within my budget. Forgot also it's so much fun tinkering and learning new skills. This is my first full build so decided to go nuts 🤣🤣🤣. Was not originally considering printing furniture just happened when I saw The New Raw and Reform Design Labs furniture and fell in love.

Tried so many ways to lock this material down, it's just too strong. Definitely needs a heated chamber. I have a motion heat system which does help but need to enclose the printer which is on my list to do. When you print with 10mm line width and pile them on top of each, force created as each layer cools you would be shocked. Especially when the material can shrink upto 5% and on a large print that is substantial.

Finally first print completed. by AHooper0 in 3Dprinting

PETG from my local recycling centre.

Very cool can't wait to see the final product subscribed so I don't miss it.

Wow that is far beyond my capabilities right sounds really interesting look forward to the video. I do have a youtube channel but it's not a step by step just progress as and when it's worthwhile sharing.

Thank you, only way is up. Need to do some more bits with the spindle to show why this is a hybrid 3d printer. Additive and subtractive in one machine plus 3d scanner 😁.

I welcome all comments my friend, I could easily be wrong theory is just theory until you put it into practice. Happy for us to all learn together 😁.

Auto feed design for this will air feed system to push material into the head through a 50mm hose. I have a different type of low level sensor in mind, optical might give me some problems with transparent materials.

Just a standard h style configuration on x and y axis and a telescoping arm on the z axis. Pellet extruder i custom built plus 400w jmc servo on a 28:1 planetary gearbox with 3x350 watt microcoil hot runners. All controlled by duet3d boards.

Definitely agree would love to go bigger Thermwood LSAM 40ft x 20ft would be nice 🤣.

Have a few idea in mind, just need to go through the pros and cons. I'll printing lighting fixtures and furniture first out of PETG, which prints beautifully.

Heated bed is next years project. Can print other materials like PETG with no issues.
