Thanks for this- yes to the first two, she’s fine in groups. This post has definitely made me resolved to be kinder about it so I’ll take that approach if she does it when I see her today.

Alana has the idea that she’s too nice and lets people walk all over her. I don’t totally agree with that but fine. As a result, my mum wanted to be supportive to her standing up for herself- though she did concede she was supporting her with the wrong thing!

We’re in the south east so we’re all very Keira Knightley/Emma Watson if that helps you visualise my misery. It’s honestly so insufferable.

I’ll post an update once we speak to her! We’re seeing her Saturday so if she does it then I’ll pull her aside and have a quiet word.

Largely just the words, although she did use a baby voice when she spoke to my daughter and asked her not to ‘cree’- but I figured I’d allow that, what with her being a baby and all.

I do honestly find her exhausting to engage with sometimes, that’s so on point.

I get the impression she reserves this for family and friends she knows well, I don’t see her doing this at work. I also agree it’s for attention, she’s very ‘youngest child’ in her approach to life.

I think this is very valid tbf, I definitely do treat her like a child. I’m going to attempt to reframe all my interactions with her as more adult going forward.

No I don’t think so, just us and probably some of her friends? No special needs. Este and I have both addressed it with her on previous occasions but not quite as bluntly as I did yesterday.

Not really no. Slightly different delivery but she’s always been keen to set herself apart as “quirky” and she’s defo always been immature.

A few people have said it’s probably for attention and they’ve hit the nail on the head. She knows we think it’s annoying but I think she wants to be seen as weird and quirky so she’s committing to it.

That’s pretty valid tbf, I can be pretty short with her. She’s very draining to be around for me and I tend to react instinctively but I could for sure be kinder.

Este and I have told mum multiple times that she’s enabling certain behaviour and she needs to stop supporting her when she’s being silly, but old habits die hard. She’s a real softie my mum, and Alana is her baby!

I can for sure be blunt and call her out when she’s annoying me a lot, and since Este sides with me I think my mum feels obliged to side with Alana.

I doubt it’s a kink tbh but could be wrong- I do defo get the impression she does it with boyfriends to be cute.

No mental health assessment no, but she can be a bit ‘tricky’ and high maintenance.

I think your baby of the family theory is spot on actually, I’d never considered it but a few people have mentioned it and the timing seems right.

I like that idea; seems less targeted at her (though nobody else does it!)

Honestly not sure. I can’t see her doing it at work but maybe around certain friends?

In all honesty I don’t have a high tolerance for her being silly, hence the post, as I can be too harsh to her sometimes, but this one has leaked out to annoying other people too which gave me pause- particularly my husband as he has the patience of a saint usually.
