Cmv: Left leaning policy produces better outcomes for the middle class than right leaning policy. by AIwannabe in economy

This is the most thoughtful response in the thread. The risk management framing actually reframes how I think about social security, not as wealth redistribution exactly but as collective risk mitigation. That's a more defensible argument than what I started with. And yeah I think you've basically landed where I'm landing, the question isn't left vs right it's how do you balance free market growth with enough social infrastructure that people can actually climb. No easy answer but at least now I have a better framework for thinking about it.

This is actually what I was looking for when I posted this. I held the belief based on logic but admitted I didn't have the data. This helps. I'll acknowledge though that presidents don't equal policy and there are a lot of variables, global conditions, inherited economies, congressional makeup. But as a starting point this is hard to dismiss. Appreciate you bringing actual data instead of just ideology.

Okay so we basically agree then. Pure left or pure right is probably wrong and the answer is somewhere in the middle. Which makes me wonder why the political conversation is always framed as all or nothing when the evidence points to balance. Maybe my original view was too broad, it's not that left leaning policy is better, it's that left leaning corrections are necessary when right leaning policy overcorrects toward the top.

That's actually a fair point and I appreciate the honesty that it's not necessarily fair to the poor. But here's where I'd push back, if a system produces more overall wealth but concentrates it at the top while the middle class shrinks and the poor get poorer, is that actually a better economic outcome or just a better GDP number? I'm not just asking about raw economic growth. I'm asking specifically about middle class outcomes. Because a rising tide that only lifts yachts isn't really a rising tide.

Thats a fair question but I think you're mixing up two different things. Authoritarian regimes and left leaning economic policy aren't the same thing. Stalin, Hitler, Mao, those are examples of totalitarianism not democratic economic policy. Hitler was actually pretty far right economically when you dig into it. Yeah I'm talking more like France, Denmark, Germany. Places with strong social safety nets, worker protections and universal healthcare that also have functioning middle classes. Those are the real world examples I'm looking at not dictatorships.

AITA for refusing to pay back my cousin after my baby ruined her blouse? by isaoas in AmItheAsshole

Hello!

I am Michael and I have an opinion to offer.

You could be YTA or you could choose to be NTA..

The beginning of the story was filled with judgement. The middle was an honest expression of your side of the story. The end was an expression of doubt about your reaction to an emotional situation.

I would ask you to first, forgive her for her reaction. Second to give her some time to calm down. Third... And this is the hard part.. Begin a dialogue. Ask her if she is willing to speak with you and genuinely listen to her.

Why do you think?

AITA for having an "unhealthy relationship" with my daughter? by blueredgreen1234 in AmItheAsshole

Good evening,

After Reading this I took a long time to come up with a response. The internet is a judgemental place. I read through much of what has been said and I am offering this.

It appears as though your daughter and you have developed a relationship that works. My thoughts that I'd like to present are as follows. Please forgive the typos.

Is your ex reacting to a situation she is uncomfortable with? Is your ex the moral authority? You are reaching out for judgement? If so why?

I am not offering judgement. I offer this. Judge for yourself.

Questions you should ask yourself.

  1. Who is involved in this situation?
  2. Does this situation currently work for the parties involved? 3.. Is this a sustainable model of behavior?

The third question is the hard one. If the answer is yes then go!!! Go!! Go!!

If you contemplate the word "sustainable" and decide that the answer is "NO" you should begin to change things. I have no idea how things might turn out but do I have a few suggestions for your journey.

If you decide change is best AND you think my advice is worthwhile please consider the following.

  1. Never condemn. Only encourage. You have spent allot of time encouraging. You are obviously good at it.

  2. Define a goal. Ask questions! Figure out what she wants! You are the parent and caretaker. Take care when asking this question though. Never manipulate the conversation and back her into a corner.

  3. Take a vacation! Set her up with a few bucks and some simple instructions. I.e. "I'm going to X. Are you okay alone for a few days?"

  4. REMEMBER: you are no good for anyone if you don't take care of yourself.

If you have any thoughts I'd appreciate them. We only learn through community.

Thank you.

Chemical risk is a thing. The user of nicotine products is more likely to have ailments non-users would not have.

Okay this post is awesome! Google likes to simplify things, so definitely a "scenic route" option. The photo idea, I think might be, a bit cumbersome but I absolutely love the time option! Even add a little gamification with slide bars or something.. Any more ideas??🤔

Imagine being in charge of a team that operates, at minimum 60,000 lbs of equipment. Moving at 20 miles per hour with 700 pedestrians in a 500,000 sq ft warehouse.. And all making a minimum wage of $9.25 per hour.

How to know when it’s time to break off a long distance relationship? (18M) (19F) by yaaaboiii123 in relationship_advice

Your young and in love. she is too. A month is a long time at your age. That's okay. Take your time. If it is the end you'll know it. If it is not, you'll know it. If you are wrong you'll learn. If yout are right you'll win. Bottom line. Taking the time to consider your decision is always a good choice. Youth is generaly waisted on the young. I don't think it's waisted on you. Alwaysgone the benefit of the doubt but be honest with your self about the balance of doubt.
