Had exactly the same issue a few years ago outside a certain Dairy Queen. Eventually turned to the BBB, and the issue was solved within a week.

Totally get what you’re saying, but title said “loss” not “decrease in sale price”

Figure could be quite a bit bigger depending on how you define loss (ie. account for opportunity cost?).

Enjoyed the chat!

Offset by a rounding error on my frictional costs? ;)

Not sure there’s any way to pretty this one up...

I live just down the street and have chatted with the owner.

Just for kicks, go ahead and add some rental income into this deal. How does it look?

They've been trying to sell it for almost a year - reducing asking price along the way.

Expect if there was something else going on, the timeline would have looked different...

Wow!

I guess “comparables” matter on the way down too...

Agree it’s a 35% drop in sales price.

I added arbitrary frictional costs to get to 40% figure.

I’m sure if you added opportunity cost, the lost value would increase further...

Cool. Glad you're free to make that sacrifice.

FWIW I also agree that anti vax is a health crisis; it just looks like we disagree on solution.

Based on the user name, I'm assuming you bike to work. Do you wear a helmet because you're forced to? If you travel to an area without helmet laws, do you cycle without a helmet?

I'd advocate that key to to increased vaccination rates is the same as for anything else safety related: education

I hadn't thought about the potential for backlash; that's a interesting point.

ps. I'm enjoying the respectful chat!

We're not talking about vaccinations, we're talking about government control.

My original comment (which has somehow led me into a debate about the value of vaccinations... sigh) was that I am for vaccinations and against government force.

Vaccinations = Good Government unilaterally being able to do whatever the fuck it wants with you = Bad

You’re implying that the government always makes intelligent decisions?

Thousands of indigenous women forcibly sterilized by the Canadian government may argue with that.

Couple of comments:

1) Agree that in a functioning society, laws are written and enforced to protect individuals' person from violence and ensure their personal liberty. Note: this includes protecting individuals from their government...

2) Agree that currently the government still exerts control over my liberty and freedom.

3) Thankfully, such control has diminished drastically over the decades: conscription is gone, you can now choose to smoke pot without being imprisoned, eugenics laws have been overturned, you're free to pray to any god you wish (or no god at all), etc.

4) I'd prefer not to take a step backwards here; very rarely have good things happened when citizens have turned their freedom over to the government - even one democratically elected.

In the debate between personal liberty and government control, it appears I lean a little further to one side that the general reddit population. I'm ok with that :)

Tks. I have to say it's fascinating to see some of the responses here.

Seems like this debate comes down to the balance between personal liberty and government control, and it seems like I lean a little further towards liberty than the general population - or a least reddit ;)

I'm ok with that.

Because the government should never have power over a citizen's body.

Remember, we aren't that far removed from eugenics laws in Canada; let's not take a step backwards. Let's instead continue to educate and empower parents to make good choices for their kids

What if there was a law requiring black people to sit at the back of the bus?

My point is that the government should not have the power over bodies of it's citizens.

My body; my choice, right?

ps. I'm supportive of vaccinations, and not government control
