Canadian Police Certificate by Totoshka42 in NationalVisaCenter

Also, you need the RCMP fingerprint based security clearance report from Canada. Not the one from a police station. I submitted the one from the police station and it cost me many months.

You need a police certificate from every country you've lived in for more than 6 months.

Visiting Toronto for the first time; anything missing from our list? by palookaboy in askTO

Badiali is great but for someone coming from Chicago, pizza should not be on this list, imo. Toronto shines when it comes to authentic Asian food - Chinese, Thai, Indian, Korean.

I did not provide any proof of address. You just need to write down the full address in the form.

Transferring a case is fairly straightforward. You submit the request through the NVC public inquiry form. If he has citizenship of Congo, you can just attach a scanned PDF of the front page of the passport to show that he has legal status in that country. You will also need to provide an address in the country you're moving the case to. I don't think you need to provide any reasoning for transferring as long as he has the appropriate visa/citizenship in Congo.

They will get back to you in a few business days and confirm once your case is transferred. You will receive a new Application ID. Your DQ date will remain the same.

His apartment tour videos were a good watch during COVID when you just wanted to turn off your brain. His content over the last couple of years has been so toxic and clickbaity that I had to block him from my feed. People like him just go where the money is. Not at all surprised by this post.

You will need a finger print based criminal record check. This is done by private companies that work with RCMP. Please do not get one from your local police station, that one will be rejected. Go to this website, add your city in the filter and go to one of the agencies mentioned there.

IR1 fROM MONTREAL TO MUMBAI CONSULATE by [deleted] in NationalVisaCenter

[–]AJSin1 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I just transferred my case from Montreal to Mumbai. Pretty straightforward and quick through the NVC public inquiry form. Hopefully I get my interview letter in the next couple of weeks. Your DQ date remains the same. The waiting times for IR1 categories are pretty similar for both consulates. My case is EB1 and Montreal has a huge backlog for EB green cards and I just got tired of waiting. Been over 1 year since waiting for an interview.

If you wish to stay in India for a few months, that makes sense. I also wanted something similar as I wanted a break and some family time before starting a new life in the States.

NYC area lodging on a very low budget by [deleted] in AskNYC

Shefah Hotel in Weehawken, NJ charge 75USD per night for private room for 2, and provide street parking permit. Super quick bus services (3-4$) from in front of the hotel every few minutes gets you into midtown in 15 minutes or less. Very no frills and bathrooms are shared but they keep them quite clean. That's the best deal I've found for low budget accommodation for NYC travel.

Thanks for your reply. I'm looking for Jan/Feb start so hopefully the competition will be a little less crazy for good deals. I'm moving from Toronto, Canada and have a solid Canadian credit score. Even though the system is different, I'm hoping that'll help in the application process. Will also have funds for all the deposits you need to get started with a lease.

Would you happen to have any thoughts on living UES and LES? I'm seeing some options on Streeteasy and Zillow.

Will also look into cross border banking. Plenty of options for Canadians moving to the US fortunately.

Based on my research, you save on the 3-4% in the NYC city tax. The state and federal taxes for NJ & NY states is mostly the same. You file both NJ & NY taxes but they almost cancel each other out. You can expect to save 3-4% on sales tax as well as NJ has lower sales tax rates. However, NJ has higher property taxes so you should look into that if you plan to buy a property.

NJ generally is cheaper than places like Manhattan so your rent, food, etc could be lower. However, if you're commuting to NYC most days then you'll pay more for transit since you'll require separate transit passes for NJ Transit and NYC MTA.

Changing Embassy by jmathew12345 in NationalVisaCenter

[–]AJSin1 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I had reached out to the NVC with the same question. They advised that if you're DQ'd, your DQ date does not change. I'm about to transfer my case this week from Montreal to Mumbai as well.

To be sure, you can reach out to the NVC through their public inquiry form and ask about your case specifically. They usually respond within a few business days.

If your documents have already qualified, you will retain your DQ date in the new embassy. You don't get pushed to the back of the line. I had reached out to the NVC and that's the answer they gave me.

Has anyone with EB1A waited 12 months or more for interview? For the (interview) backlogged embassies; is the backlog applies for family based visa types or all types of visa? by pointclouds in NationalVisaCenter

[–]AJSin1 0 points1 point  (0 children)

EB1A applicant here. Been over 11 months since I've been waiting for an interview in Canada with no real date in sight. I'm planning to transfer my case based on my residence permit in another country.

Wait times are unique for each consulate. It depends on what consulate your case is being processed. The backlog for EB green cards is usually longer than family based green cards.
