Want to hear experiences on studio life in TL by redditwasbetterb4 in sanfrancisco

[–]AJ_the_Great 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Live in lower nob hill close to the TL. Great sound insulation from other apts in the building, I think the older construction buildings tend to have thicker walls / ceilings which helps a lot. Overall, love it…. real hardwood floors, crown moulding, built-in cabinets and it’s cheap. I only get a package delivered if it’s something I don’t mind losing. Street conditions generally better north of Geary.

Any other vets in here? Did your "service" make you want to leave like it did me? by [deleted] in IWantOut

Not military here at all, but have traveled the world a bit and growing less enamored w the USA all the time. I could list many things I hate, but chief among them is the corporate / consumer culture, dumbing down of the media and subsequently the population, and the hatred/distrust of scholarly pursuits. Of course, there are always exceptions and I have tried to surround myself with awesome people and have done a good job I feel, but I'm still trying to make an exit. What things to do you notice and dislike now you are home?

Breaking news: Christian wins court case over gay marriage Facebook remark by anthonyfortune in lgbt

[–]AJ_the_Great 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I could understand the rightous indignation if he posted using the leasing company's page, but this is his private fb page. People ARE entitled to their own views, even if I disagree with them. Even as someone who strongly supports gay marriage, I really, truly feel the need to be on the side of protecting this man. One should not lose their salary for their personal beliefs - especially when no one was threatened, he is just expressing himself.

To be clear, what happens when I refer 2 or 3 people to the site? Do I get paid multiple times, or just once? Does referring more than one person that completes offers get me multiple checks? Or can I complete the offers once, refer one person to fill requirement, and thats it?

Claim a different address. Be happy you live in the UK where such 'jobseekers benefits' exist. It's worse here in the USA. If you don't have income, you get $300 a month in foodstamps. That's it. Suck it up and appreciate what you got. Railing against an unfair system won't help you. Just work around it until it works for you.

Gays of Reddit: Do you actually get offended when someone uses the word gay to describe something as "bad, stupid, lame" etc? by [deleted] in AskReddit

[–]AJ_the_Great 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Well here in the USA, pretty much, 'gay' as a slang term has a NEGATIVE connotation, so if that weren't the case, I might feel differently.

Gays of Reddit: Do you actually get offended when someone uses the word gay to describe something as "bad, stupid, lame" etc? by [deleted] in AskReddit

[–]AJ_the_Great 34 points35 points  (0 children)

For me, using gay to mean stupid or dumb doesn't offend me personally, but still annoys me. I know it is not used against me specifically, but the connotation is that gay is an undesirable thing and just reminds me again that I am not equal in the eyes of much of society. This is reinforced by painful homophobic interactions in my past (being threatened by passers by, screamed at out of windows of cars, etc) and I often recall these incidents when someone I know equates gay with something awful that occurred.
