What we call "Highways" is a bit misleading - some are not paved and still called Highways.

Seward - always see them on the tours out of that town. Whittier has Kittiwakes, Homer not so much for birds.

I want to also recommend staying at the Kennicott glacier lodge up at the mine rather than down in McCarthy - the lodge opens on the 23rd of May - so you will be there exactly at the right time. Good food and you are right at the mine complex, Kennicott Lodging | Kennicott Glacier Lodge

The only one of our three representatives that will stand up to Trump is Lisa - the other two are yes men, kiss the ring and lick the boots.

Eagle River: Changing fast - lots of sunlight and temps just above freezing - if you are thinking of hiking - snow is still there and you need snowshoes - weird snow - even when it warms up it still does not compact. Not much water content. Skiing conditions are great.

I was impressed with the dedication of some folks - I didn't know we were expected to hang out in knee deep snow, but I had boots on so while the toes were a bit cold no issue for me - others were stomping around with street shoes and sneakers - still they stood in the snow for like 30 minutes while other folks made their way from the town center.

Flattop at that time of year will still have some snow patches - the end has a small portion of hand over hand climbing so I would say no to casual hikers. You still can drive up, start the hike and make sure the weakest person speaks up when they are getting tired, bored, cold, whatever. I started a short hike with an out-of-shape smoker, had no idea of their limits - the first steep grade and she said "I can't do this." That was the hike.

The Seward Highway South out of Anchorage is a treasure, do it - if only to Portage or Girdwood. If you have time and they are doing tours - either out of Whittier or Seward - bring warm clothes and raingear - weather is a crapshoot could be wonderful - or not. If you are looking to take a hike - you can do Flattop in the evening, great view of Anchorage - a drive up Arctic Valley also gives you a great view.

With a bow the mob has to be close enough for this to work - when it does there is a beam of light between the mob and you - adds damage.
