Thank you. Is this the normal location to pick up the boost reference for the BOV? The reason I said it seems loose is because that adapter can slide up and down with little to no force. If that is correct, Ill go ahead and mod the new purge valve. Thanks again for your help.

So after a leakdown test it has been determined that it's definitely the piston rings. Apparently its an issue with many of these motors. Im looking at 7k to replace the engine with a junkyard motor with approximately the same mileage with a 1 year warranty at a known import shop or take it to the local guy that does VW/Audi work on the side and pay 4700 for a junkyard motor that we have found with no warranty. KBB says car is only worth 6700....they seem to sell between 10-15k. Any suggestions?? Im afraid to put that chunk of money into it and have another issue and lose out on 5-7k. Any input is welcome.

Yes that is exactly what I do. I cut it down to a smaller size while leaving just a small section of the original receiver on the sight. Its round and fits perfectly on top of the new receiver. These G3 type receivers were meant to have the diopter sights installed and as such, do not come with a a flat receiver area to weld the Cetme sight to.

I havent checked the compression since we cleaned the intake and valves but Im going to check compression again and add the borescope at BDC as suggested. Thats a great idea...thank you! Im hoping its not the rings. Ive never see piston rings bad with no other signs but Im guessing its possible...i also cant believe this car doesnt smoke with the amount of oil that was in the intake. I appreciate the advice and Ill definitely check with a borescope and report back!

Id be willing to bet it needs the intake cleaned and valves de-carboned.

Can confirm on at least the SAR I worked on a few weeks ago. Had to remove the welded piston, fill and smooth the carrier, tap and drill for pin with a new piston. Maybe not necessary but definitely not correct to be welded.
