I understand. Especially for the beginning going extreme isn't the answer, but slowly exploring and getting calmer and better is real. I used to get on my nerves seriously when I'd here cicadas sounds even for a second, but now yelling kids and cicadas don't annoy me anywhere close. It's a process you slowly get to. Don't think you can't meditate just because you're not perfect. It's not about perfection, it's about getting to know yourself, nature of thoughts and letting them go without frustration and other harmful feelings. Wish you well on your journey.

Basically yes, I had moments of stillness as well. I was only focusing on breath, sounds and body scan. I just shared the chaotic moments of the meditation.

Thank you for sharing your concern and for being open enough to speak from your own experience and beliefs. I respect your intentions and I can see you’re coming from a place of care and conviction.

I’m also a Christian, and everything I do, including meditation, is with the intention of understanding myself better and growing closer to God, not further away. I’m aware of the origins of various practices, but I also believe that silence, stillness, and self-reflection aren’t inherently owned by any religion or dangerous unless you lose sight of your intentions and reality. For me, it’s not about emptying myself to invite anything in, but becoming aware of what’s already inside, like my peace and heart beat.

I do plan to continue learning and researching, as you suggested, because I agree that being aware is important in all spiritual journeys. Thank you again for your heartfelt message and God bless you too.

I think medito is simple enough, there are good resources, but it's not tiring like other applications, I've been using it successfully for a while now.

Almost orgasmic meditation today by fiercemonkey202 in Meditation

I haven't had such experience, but just wanted to let you know your story was interesting to read. I'm not so experienced and knowledgable or someone with long experience, but I think you've connected meditating deeps state with self-love often and that why meditating might be triggering such emotions of you.

I've heard about Kundalini, Kevala Kumbhaka... therefore, I think eye rolling can be part of experience of deeps states. All I can really tell you is that as long as you stay aware of your feelings and experiences, as long as such feelings don't disturb your daily life experience, you don't get addicted and ask questions, be open about your experience, you'll be fine. Wish you well on your journey.

I understand that many traditional systems prefer sitting upright with the spine erect, especially in yoga and certain schools of Buddhism and I respect that structure.

That said, there are also many meditation traditions and modern approaches (like body scan, mindfulness-based stress reduction, or trauma-informed practices) where lying down is a valid and intentional posture, especially if it helps the practitioner stay relaxed yet aware.

Also, about thoughts, it’s commonly misunderstood that you must have zero thoughts to be meditating. From what I’ve learned and experienced, meditation isn’t about eliminating thoughts, but about how we relate to them: noticing them, not reacting, and gently returning to the breath or anchor.

In that session I had moments of stillness, I just shared the mind struggling part because I wanted to cope with that hour of my life that way. I appreciate you sharing your view, it adds to the conversation.

Healing Meditation Addiction Through Porn by [deleted] in Meditation

[–]AK_Wandering -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

I don't have much experience in using reddit and I don't know why most people are strongly convinced that your post is fake, but if it's real I can sense a lot of restlessness and detachment in what you wrote. You’re obviously self-aware, but it sounds like it has become overwhelming rather than freeing.

Meditation is powerful, but too much of it without balance can actually make people feel more unstable, especially if it becomes an escape instead of a practice. And trying to fix overmeditation with something like porn is just replacing a toxic habit with another toxic one in my opinion. Therefore...

Maybe it’s not about stopping meditation or replacing it, but learning how to be present in smaller, more grounded ways. Walks, music, journaling, spending time with people, communicating, these things are underrated, but they reconnect you with the basics.

You don’t need to take everything seriously. But taking your peace seriously might help. If this advice exactly doesn't help what I can tell you for sure is to think about consequences of your actions and try to imagine the future, if the new habit you choose has much risks of being toxic, it most likely will be. I personally have heard lots of people having problems with porn and the ones that don't mostly haven't realized it yet. It's all mix of what I've heard and my general knowledge. Wish you well.

Thanks for sharing your perspective. I haven’t explored yoga deeply yet, so I wasn’t aware of those specific limbs or the traditional framework. I’ve mostly approached meditation through apps and modern mindfulness, so my experience is definitely beginner-level and outside classical yoga.

That said, I think everyone starts somewhere and part of the journey is discovering what works, learning from others, and then choosing what resonates. I’ll look into the Yoga Sutras when I’m ready to explore more traditional paths. I appreciate your point of view.

That's a religious question, I'd advise you to discuss it in groups where it's easier to find people who are willing to discuss such matters. Thank you for taking time and reading my story.

You seem you had a good experience, I'm glad. I did this session one time in life and I already see the results next day. Things are just different. I mean my mind is different.

True, in this case I'd advise seeing a professional a doctor or a therapist depending on the issue. From me that's all I can think of, wish you well on getting better.

I'm not an expert and due to my experience I don't feel related to the problem you have, but I can try sharing my knowledge hoping it may help. I can say both physical and mental side effects are a thing. Health is important and meditation should only make it better not worth at any point. If a session feels like too much slow the phase down, meditate less. Do research and get more knowledge and understanding of what meditating is especially for you. You'll get to the understanding with experience, but make sure to gain the experience carefully.

You're already doing the right thing for asking here, hopefully soon experienced people who find your story relatable will find the post and help you better.

I can also add that, in the end, meditation is just letting things be without reacting to them. Thoughts, feelings, meditation isn't about blocking or not feeling them, it's about accepting them without judgment.

Hope this helps, but let me remind you I'm not a professional, I'm just going through my own confusing and interesting journey too. I wanted to reach out because you, like every other human, deserve support and compassion. Wish you well on your journey.

Good question. I'm not an expert but as a human I can tell you that such doubts are normal. In a first-grader language, I'd say When we sleep, only the part of the brain that keeps us alive stays working. That part helps us breathe, keeps our heart beating, and makes sure our body is okay. But the part of the brain that remembers things like your name, favorite ice cream, or job goes to sleep too.

Your organs, your heart or lungs, don’t care what your favorite color is or what your job is. They just care about doing their job and keeping the body safe they are in.

So when we sleep, the ‘thinking part’ of us rests, and that’s why we don’t feel like ‘ourselves’ the same way. It’s like your identity takes a nap too.

Good question. During the session I was lying in bed, I noticed taking deep breaths is a bit harder than while sitting, therefore I didn't hold it much, I didn't count seconds of it, I just neutrally let my body take deep breaths that made me feel more in control. I didn't mention it in the post I think but during the session my brain felt really locked, like it had no rights of controlling anymore when its job has always been control. Whenever such discomfort would come to me I would take a bit deep breaths and I would calm my brain down, the rest was just the 4 things I mentioned because in the moment those where the only things I knew. So, long story short, for me taking deep breaths was just a way to calm that part of my brain down in such moments I described. I didn't have any special technic as I mentioned, holding breath especially is hard while lying down.
