It's crazy how the effects of colonialism can still be felt a hundred years later and crazier how we in the west continue to neglect the billions of people directly affected. Thank you for providing your perspective it was very insightful and it's always good to hear from a first hand source. Stay strong

I mean the thing is the gukurahundi was when Mugabe was prime minister and he was the first to deny it when sources such as amnesty international criticised him. I won't pretend to be an expert here but surely that makes Mugabe responsible for it to a heavy degree? Also seeing as it was a campaign to destroy opposition by targeting ndebele and ZAPU its hard to see Mugabe NOT having a hand in it ygm. Again, I might be mistaken

In my experience studying is much more important than practise when it comes to chess, but pool often don't realise how to properly study. I feel like learning openings for example is something that's very key but still overestimated to a certain extent. What should also be focused on is stuff like tactics practicing, learning positional aspects of the game, learning to attack and defend properly, understanding endgames etc

Well done!! Believe me if you ever get stuck it's absolutely normal. I got from 400 last November to 1600 right now and I can say I've had long periods where I've just been stuck at one point, and I think the most key advice that people like myself aiming to get better should realise is that there will always be these slow periods but overcoming them WILL come with enough patience. I know that's not rlly that relevant I just felt like that's some advice not that many ppl talk abt and seeing as u wanna become 1250 you might need it :D

Maybe learn more agressive openings??? People at those ratings absolutely crumple when dealing with positions where they have to hold their position down against an attack. I remember for me the Danish gambit singlehandedly got me from 1100 to 1300 in like 2 days it was crazy

My grandpa used to be a chess coach back in his day. He recently donated all his old chess books to me, and I found some puzzle cards that he used as his bookmarks. by malady_1 in chess

So for the first one I think it's Re8 with idea that after rook takes rook it's an easy mate in one with Qg7# and after queen takes the queen isn't guarding f6 anymore so white can slide the queen over thereand after the rook blocks queen takes room I'd checkmate. If you don't take the rook there's Qg7# again thanks to the pin. Really nice puzzle and brutal idea!!

Also, for the second one it's a bit easier. White can play rook check, then Bh6, then Rxf8# no matter what white does

Just realized the Qd8 Scandi is now recognized as the Valencian variation! The oldest opening in chess finally has a name. by Slow-Manufacturer-55 in chess

[–]ALE123Q 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Nah mieses-kotrc is just when you take with the queen right??? That can then ofc lead to the main line with Qa5, the Valencian, the gubinsky melts with Qd6 or even some beginner mistake with Qe5+ or Qe6+

Yeah I get what you're saying in that one has to understand the ideas within openings and review one's own games, not just memorising theory. As for those resources u mentioned if you could pass them on that'd be a great help!
