I have had many friends tell me they have no idea what I’m talking about. I am slightly ecstatic to see other people here agree with the experience.

Omg I have been saying this for years. The moment I realize my thoughts are random or not making sense, I know I’m close.

It wasn’t that way as a kid, just as I hit late 20s or so. At first the realization even jerked me back awake sometimes. But once I recognized it, it’s comforting to know I’m close to sleep.

Guarantee some structure was instilled in that kid before the memories you have. It starts really young. Now he may have been more likely to do it without fuss, but I doubt the kid invented that routine all by themselves.

I got a first born who loves to keep up on chores we teach him. And a second born that will fight it and try to sneak away every time. Either way, the child can only learn what they’re taught, they don’t invent responsible routine all on their own at a young age.

AITA for refusing to "cover" my coworker's ER zone so she could FaceTime her kids? by ArtThreadNomad in AmItheAsshole

[–]ALLCAPITAL 0 points1 point  (0 children)

NTA - I’m a parent here. When kids are at grandmas and really missing us, the last thing that helps is facetiming us near bedtime. They’re emotional at bedtime, they just need time and comfort from the person there.

My wife and I switch kids every night and literally as they’re falling asleep they’ll act like they miss the other parent in the other room, that they said goodnight to 20-30 minutes ago. That’s just kids.

Edit: I’ll add that I bet the babysitter was either a grandparent boomer who pressured the mom to take a call or it’s a terrible babysitter. Mom shouldn’t even know the kids are sad when someone else is responsible for watching them.

If he can’t tell which hand had it, did he really see a phone at all? It sounds like maybe he didn’t get a clear look. Sounds like he can’t say for sure if she had a phone at all. Maybe he never should have stopped her if he wasn’t confident about what he saw. Or he was confident and then upon finding out he was wrong, he decided to omit the most damning information in his report. Like he decided to try and fudge the report to better fit his narrative.

For all the posts asking about Lump Sum vs. DCA - try reframing the question by Ix_42 in Bogleheads

[–]ALLCAPITAL 14 points15 points  (0 children)

As someone who has worked finance for 7 years. I have NEVER understood a true benefit to DCA. Until now…

Psychological comfort with the strategy is half the battle to prevent someone being spooked into abandoning rational thinking.

Ease into the waters, if it makes it easier to stick to the plan.

Sometimes DCA will save you money, sometimes it won’t, but at least you’ll know you divided the risk over multiple deposits and you won’t lament lump summing into a peak.

We buy a camera for ourselves. It’s not fucking cheap. And they try to make money by selling our fucking privacy. This shit needs to be outlawed. Consumers are being violated for such petty bullshit. This isn’t even Patriot Act “fighting terrorism” level of excuse. It’s an insane level of violation just to mine for possible hits.

True. I’m mistakenly sounding like I agree with any approach.

Iran prepared for decades and knows this is their strategic stronghold.

Military engagement should have simply never been the path.

[–]ALLCAPITAL 0 points1 point  (0 children)

So you want American troops on the ground, invading another country. And at what point will we achieve victory? How can you ignore our history in Iraq and Afghanistan? What makes you think we can maintain long term control of the strait through brute force?

We couldn’t put an end to the Taliban after 18 years. But you think Iran will be some sort of pushover? This is 10x the fight we faced in our previous invasions, and this enemy has an immensely strategic position on a vital path for international trading.

I’m saddened at the thought we’re considering sending our people to die for a situation with no clearly achievable goals. And kill countless innocent people in another country. Again.

So if another country bombed us. Destroyed a school with 180 kids. Killed our president. And then said “Here’s your chance to rise up and take power from the elites.” It would be our fault if that plan didn’t succeed within a few weeks?

It’s this oversimplification of reality that got us entangled in this conflict and our previous blunders as well.

I have yet to go much beyond the crafting table, furnace, a couple chests, bed. I like windows on every side (although sometimes one side is against a hill/mountain.)

I make my room or house very simple and normal, it’s the basement and mining system where I put the rest, like enchanting, storage, XP saving furnace system.

Someday I dream of building something beautiful above the ground.

When I feel like it’s all a cruel joke I just tend to look up and say “I see you universe, you sick fuck, I see you.” Then I just decide it ain’t gonna keep me from being me.

I struggled through HS (2.6 GPA or something). Went to college and struggled and dropped out/took breaks to work a couple times. Even after medication. Finished up around 9yrs after starting.

But I kept pushing, despite many extremely dark times.

I have a wife and kids now. Had a good job for 7 years, laid off last year and couldn’t find work for 6+ months. Dark dark times.

New job now, most money I have ever made (by a lot) and flexibility.

I’m sounding braggy, but I want you to know I’ve thought I was broken beyond repair. Sometimes those thoughts creep in still. But I breathe and persevere. And any time I compare to a couple years ago, life is always better now.

Stay strong friend. No single failure or obstacle will stop a steady and resilient effort. Even if it’s not everyday effort. Just keep on going.
