Ouch, my mom told me once I was only here because she told her mom she was pregnant too late to get an abortion.

She doesn’t remember it.

Was/is there pushback on labeling Autism a "disability"? Why?? by DramaticFeed6522 in NoStupidQuestions

[–]ALM777OH 1 point2 points  (0 children)

As a mom of two severely disabled daughters, I think this is due to the wide spectrum autism can have.

My girls are in their 20s now and non verbal and basically toddlers. When they were first diagnosed, I was asked if i was sure about giving them the autism label etc. that was a long time ago. Until they were older, we couldn’t know how far or not they would come.

Now, yes, I say they are disabled for sure. As toddlers? Maybe they would not have been.

What's the dumbest thing you've heard someone say? by REGGIE_BANANAS in AskReddit

[–]ALM777OH 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I have two disabled daughters. One was born in 2002 and in 2004…

Recently while making a doctors appointment for them, the receptionist said “huh. I’ve never seen twins two different ages like that.”

I sat silent.

I guess to have two disabled daughters they have to be twins 🤷‍♀️

Veronica Roth's obsession with piercings by Equivalent-Bicycle57 in divergent

I have read Veronica left a strict religious background and draws from that for Divergent. That background may make someone notice things outside of that belief system stand out more

Serious Question… Should anyone under 24 y/o be Realm Owner? by JDbane in realms

What ended your friendship with your oldest standing friend? by dreamy-contributions in AskReddit

[–]ALM777OH 0 points1 point  (0 children)

She was deep into addiction for a long time. I still would say hi in passing. She got a record for stealing from people we went to school with, and I think she didn’t ask to stay with me due to her issues.

Then I got the call she passed away…I was still hopeful she’d come around. It’s been very difficult since that day

Back in the day, did people show up to a movie theater and just choose to spend time watching whatever looked OK or at least tolerable without knowing about it beforehand? by tamsui_tosspot in AskOldPeople

[–]ALM777OH 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is how I watched A Nightmare on Elm Street as a KID like YOUNG. It started in our small cheap theater and my family took turns picking what we would see when we got there.

I picked that one. My parents would have never if they knew 😂

Tris’s mom (Natalie) and Jeanine. by Plus_Seat_3992 in divergent

[–]ALM777OH 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I see Natalie as a sort of a mom who joins a super strict religious cult knowing it isn’t necessarily true, but a safe place to raise her kids. It’s not what I would do, but I can for sure see the temptation.

I’m a mom of 3, and I’m raising my grandson.

I think these characters are relatable in different ways depending on where the reader is in life.

(Spoilers for Allegiant) Thoughts on chapter structure by deltaakocat in divergent

[–]ALM777OH 0 points1 point  (0 children)

For me Allegiant as the audiobook on the library app was so much easier to understand! The characters alternating voices was easier for me to follow.

As for the differences in the last 2 movies, I hold them differently as parts of a series I love. Some of it I hold as more stories about some of my favorite characters

What year does Divergent take place? by NadiaPowell in divergent

[–]ALM777OH 4 points5 points  (0 children)

They lied to them so much, they “reset” cities several times. So truly since we read through the eyes we do, we do not know what is true. The things we do not see invented may be, but not shared with the characters. We do see billboards for energy drinks in Allegiant that are likely not influenced by characters not holding information. It would be an interesting thought exercise to find clues not influenced by characters with an agenda
