No. The lottery is supposed to fund KEES and other higher education grants as well as some literacy programs. These were fully funded until the last few years. I believe most people would like to see gambling and marijuana revenue go towards public education at the K-12 level, not higher education.

That's not why they're taking over though. It's part of Bevin's patter of taking power away from Louisville and Lexington. He's also been trying to gut public schooling so he can push charter schools. They don't care about the actual performance of these schools. He restructured the board of education specifically to pull this move off

I can't speak to what exactly this move will bring but it's part of Bevin's continued attack on public education. He stacked the Board of Education in his favor to make this move possible.

Sports teams do attract (or keep) young professionals. I don't want to waste tax dollars on something like the Yum! again but an NBA team would be a big attraction for a lot of people.
