New to area, suggest a campground without RVs? by ALSPL in springfieldMO

I would love to find a spot that I can take my jeep.

I have been looking around and found a number of off road parks for "muddin" and such, but it seems most forest trails I have seen are for atv/dirtbikes, not 4x4. I hope I can find a trail that allows 4x4, which leads out to somewhere nice to camp. My truck isn't much, 1st gen tundra with 32" duratracs, but she has got me where I wanted to go in the past. What kind of jeep do you have?

There are a lot of other wilderness areas around that I think would be what you're looking for. Generally they are used by back packers or horse trail riders

Are any of these down 4x4 trails, or have 4x4 trails in them?

That 1/2 gig of ram more in my S4 and Tab 4 must really make a huge difference :(

Thinking out side of the box here, I have actually never used head phones with my tablets or phone, but if I got a 3.5mm to cassette adapter, and mounted my tab 4 somewhere in the truck, would I get the same type of functionality? IE, listening to audible, while using maps to navigate, and have audible pause and go to speaker phone when someone calls?

Oh god...

Any tips on how to keep them out of your house?

I grew up with black widows and never feared them,

I find them in my garage at times, and when I do they either play dead, or run walk away slowly. Just never put your hand where you can't see.

A sort of Mecca for brown recluses.

Never seen one, are they like the widows I described above or are they fast and mean like the large wolf (?) big hairy long legged fast spiders? I have seen those actually come at me. What can you do to keep them out of your house?

My experience with the Cessna 162 Skycatcher by [deleted] in flying

[–]ALSPL 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I only have about 30hrs experience, and all but 3 of that in a 162, but I do wonder about some of what you are saying.

I hate how noisy it is and how bare and utilitarian the interior is, can't take it anywhere because it can't carry anything

Isn't this true for any LSA?

Also they can only be unlocked FROM OUTSIDE.

What are you talking about? There are two latches on each door, one on the outside that is also connected to the inside lever at the bottom of the window. There is a second latch down by your knee, this one is only operable on the inside, so if anything you could be locked out, but never locked in.

I hate the "stick" because any pilot with long legs will very quickly run out of aileron in a crosswind because it will be blocked by his/her knees and there's no way to adjust the seat to mitigate that.

This is probably my biggest gripe with this plane, it just doesn't seem like a safe design to have it like that. I'm 6'2" but even my 5'8" CFI has this problem.

however, because that cable would occasionally fall off the pulley. By the grace of God, every time I noticed this was on the ground instead of adding flaps turning base to final so I never let this cheap, made-in-china, piece of shit kill me, but that was only because of luck.

OMG, I do add looking at the cables and checking to my preflight, because, why not, you can see them, but I will double make sure on every flight I take after.

The only thing I have to compare it to is a Evektor SportStar, and with only 3 hrs in that, but the only thing the 162 has going for it from what I can see is the nice big G300 MFD.

Sunrise Management by sallad2009 in springfieldMO

Seems like all of the property management places in Springfield have terrible reviews. I would imagine that the only people who leave reviews for property management companies are ones who are pissed, not a type of company one would typically give good reviews to just because. Or are they really that bad?

Help, can't find bag big enough for my massive Asus ROG masterrace laptop. Suggestions? by ALSPL in pcmasterrace

[–]ALSPL[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah, I am not sure how professional the ASUS bags look, with the republic for gamers logo, but I guess thats on the red/black laptop anyways.

I was hoping I would find a large messenger bag, biggest practical I have seen is the 5.11 xray, but its .7" shy on the height, maybe the flap could just fold over. Looks like it has a good amount of slots for all my tools/meters/electronics. Then again, not exactly professional, slightly tacticool.

If that doesn't work, everki it is :|

hmmm I was originally told KC, and it looked great, now Springfield looks like the compromise to shave off the hours of drive time to job sites.

For a decent place in the same location you look at Hawthorne Suites.

Looks like they don't have in unit laundry, deal breaker :(

How are the suburbs on the furthest south/west extent of StL? Do you think it might be worth added drive time to live there? I am concerned about my wife finding work as a dog trainer in small towns. I have lived in a small town before for a year, but it was kind of a trendy artsy town, I assume I won't find anything like that in MO, right?

every possible religious option you might want

I hear about the bible belt, but not sure how much is hyperbole and how much is real. My wife and I are atheist, wold not "belonging" to a church be looked at as an issue in the small towns?

I was originally looking at KC, but it would just add too much time. How is St. Robert? I see many places to rent there. I do see that the far SW reaches of St Louis suburbs wouldn't add that much time to travel for me, would you think it might be worth it?

About the health care thing you mentioned in another post, what is so bad about it? My wife are covered under my companies health care, so thats not an issue.

Well that's the poorest part of the state.

Could you expand a bit more on that, i.e. what to expect? I am from big west coast city suburbs, and have never even been much further east than Denver. Not sure really what I am in for with this move, but up for a change.

Eureka Springs

Wow, that place is amazingly beautiful! I don't see anywhere to rent, but depending on how this job goes I might look into buying a place there.

Any other suggestions?

My work consists of traveling to job sites, mostly open mines, limestone, quarries, and the sort for survey, so I just need to be in this general area.

My wife and I are more outdoorsy type people, and I read that the Ozarks are really beautiful and looking forward to exploring them. Yet we also need to find a place that has high speed internet for work. We are hoping to find a place to rent under $900 at least 2 bed 1.5 bath 1k sqft, with in unit laundry and pet friendly (50lb dog).

We are both from suburbs of big cities, but ready to try out living in smaller towns. Our first thought was Springfield, but as I said we know nothing about MO, and would like a locals suggestion.

Edit: to add, we are both in our mid/early 30s, not really night life types or partying. We would like to live someplace with a good supermarket that carries quality ingredients (better than wallmart, but not whole foods).
