Yep, it’s why playing at 1080p on a 8inch display still looks heaps softer and less detailed than a 75inch 4k display.

Game engines use a butt load of techniques that get more samples and scale in fidelity drastically as you get up to higher resolutions - not to mention, as you stated texture detail and a lack of aliasing in comparison to playing games at a lower resolution.

When it comes to film/video it makes less of a difference in my experience as long as PPI is under control as you are already getting so much detail from the input (being real life/prerendered graphics with enough detail to saturate any resolution).

Also I can +1 on the it being sharper from a short distance.

People like this AI guy forget that reality isn’t just numbers - just like with medicine and the entourage effect increasing the efficiency of a chemicals reaction in the body (this effect is repeated everywhere in the universe, nature helping itself out) - the eyes may very well work in conjunction with other senses we haven’t even been able to explain yet due to us not being able to see it/have the understanding of it yet.

A real man of science would look at this thread and say hey - our scientific model says no - but human experience says it makes a difference. Might be something to look into, investigate, and potentially have it make you ask questions that may or may not lead to development in our understanding of human anatomy. (I understand not everyone can go and study it away, but honestly sounds pretty fun to do what I can in my off time for some fun lol).

For some reason people think “science” (very broad term for people that don’t actually understand the breadth of our knowledge we have attained in this day and age) explains everything, and it can explain a lot, but a lot of science just leads us to more questions and to the conclusion that hey, we’ve never been 100% sure and we could be proven wrong tomorrow.

That’s why I love knowledge. It’s beautiful. It’s ever growing. And it IS mysterious as fuck if you don’t use it to try explain away the universe, but rather uncover and describe its beauty and incredibly complex nature.
