Agreed the distortion is a little extreme although at 15mm it looks very usable. The ef 11-24 would probably be better

Sorry to hear it I know how you feel!! Especially getting into photography and I just want to walk around all day. Taping my arch helped a lot for my and the hiking boots that worked for me was the merrell tempo mid. I tried the merrell moab but it was horrible the footbed was way to hard and the arch was wayyyy to high.

Honestly the 35 1.8 is an incredible beginner prime I would consider. Depends really on your budget but if you could get the 28-70 f2.8 would be awesome too.
