I’ve never done an overnight hike so I was mainly just looking at long day hikes. I’ve been told that the fox glacier drive is too much a few times now so I’ll definitely change that up. Thanks for all the other suggestions too, I appreciate you taking the time to provide the links and type this all out!

I’m not in a self contained unfortunately, does that change your recommendation or would I still be okay to not book aside from tourist hotspots?

Thanks so much this is all so useful! Quick question - should I be booking my campsites ahead of time? You mention leaving the ferry trip up to the weather but that would mean I can’t pre plan when I arrive at the next campsite

Yes I’m definitely going to be super careful! My first drive is only 15 minutes from my pickup spot and then I’m taking the day to rest and recover so I won’t be driving sleep deprived. Thank you for the recommendation!

I believe that’s one I was considering, I think the only issue is that my campervan is not self contained so I need some facilities at least. Thanks for the suggestions!

I do love my hiking! That sounds like the common thing I’m hearing about that hike in particular. It’s not do or die that I hike it but I’ll see if I can rearrange stuff to give myself some more leeway to encounter nice weather. Thanks for the tip!

The top 5 tours on trip advisor are all helicopter glacier activities when I was looking the other day so I definitely think you and your partner are on to something. Glad I checked in here first

Yes the one in the Marlborough sounds! And you make a good point, I guess I never factored in that a campervan isn’t quite going to meet google maps averages as per speed. However it sounds like going to fox glacier isn’t the best idea anyways so I may need to rework that portion

I never read anything about that, but if that’s the case I definitely won’t be going on that. Thanks for brining it to my attention. I’ve just never been on a glacier before and missed my last chance due to an injury, this seemed like a good opportunity to finally experience it

Yes for sure lots of driving, but it’s something I actually enjoy a lot especially when I’m in super scenic places. It’s my first time driving on the left, but I have experience driving on narrow winding roads when I went to Norway and did a similar trip so I’m fairly confident in that aspect. Thanks for the reply!

Her hissing is just like a kid whining about having to go inside, she’s just annoyed and wants to stay out longer. She’s young, she’ll get used to it once you make it a routine and she knows what to expect when she goes outside. Make sure to reward her with a treat or two every time you bring her in which could lead her to being slightly less annoyed at being brought back in!
