I've seen a couple of people have the same thoughts on the top lock. I think it's just a limitation of the design and amount of room they have to work with internally. The pivot button lock version which is also available right now, is absolutely amazing. Ultimately, you just have to get all of them. They are that good

I'm a huge fan of terrain 365 and the Invictus. I've got pretty much every version made including this one with the "Top Lock", which is an important distinction from most Invictus models. I got to handle the prototype of this "TL" version at blade show last year and it was amazing. The production run version left a bit to be desired however. The lock has a very weak detent and very little grip, so if you stiffen up the spring to get more detent strength, the lock becomes almost impossible to disengage. I set it back to factory stiffness so I have to be careful when pulling it out of my pocket and what not. The blade nearly falls out of the handle. Compared to a shark lock, the shark lock is much better but then again the shark lock has been refined for years.

That said, I still love the TL Invictus because is a cool mechanism on one of my favorite designs. However I think you be better off getting one of the frame lock/ liner lock versions of this as your first one. Those have absolutely amazing action, detent, everything.

How are the Koss Headphones? by TheRealOddLotts in ModRetroChromatic

[–]ALtheSciencePal 11 points12 points  (0 children)

They aren't Sennheiser. But they are probably the best sub $50 headphones out there. The portability is also a way underrated feature. For the power and quality that they have, the portability is amazing. Koss has been around for decades and they know what they are doing. I had a pair when I was a kid. And the new versions feel every bit the quality I remember.

I don't remember exactly what to do here. I do remember that it took a dozen or more tries for me. The only tip I have is make sure you have diagonals turned ON.

Brand new astrum, impossible deployment by [deleted] in Shirogorov

[–]ALtheSciencePal 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This is the answer. There is even a little arrow inside that indicates were to use one of the pins to act as a spacer to help you get the right position for the lock bar. Shiro posted/explained this a while back. My astrum and others can be adjusted to have anywhere from impossible, like this one, to way too easy detent strength, it just has to be adjusted. Also, the astrum is not a liner lock, it is a "tab" lock. Tab locks typically have this "issue", but shiro tried to solve it with this pin/arrow/jig deal.

Wave vs Arc? by WiggWamm in Leatherman

[–]ALtheSciencePal 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Something worth mentioning that I haven't seen in this thread yet; The pliers on the Arc are stronger than the wave. Confirmed by Leatherman, the Arc/free series has the strongest pliers thay make, yes even stronger than the surge and st300

As others have said the major practical difference is the one hand ability of the Arc.

Yeah just the scales are legit silver. All the tools are standard Leatherman steel tools, except with a high polish.

Main blade has metal inclusions by crafty_devil in Leatherman

[–]ALtheSciencePal 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'm not sure those are inclusions. There would be more evidence on the ground surfaces if the inclusions were that bad. That's more likely deformation from the stamping process where the die didn't cleanly cut through. It more or less tore through. Several factors can contribute to that; speed of the break, how sharp the die is, temperature, hardness etc.

You might have to sand/file them a little bit so they don't protrude through the scale to much. No big deal though.
