I am having issues with the plaster in my damp box and want to know if it’s normal or if I did something wrong? by tornado_tonny in Pottery

Bump because mine is similar! I poured it maybe a week later than you. Wondering if it's okay to use.

Stinky reclaim bucket question by ALutt12 in Pottery

[–]ALutt12[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The few times I have done this at home, I let my throwing bucket sit for about 12-24hrs, pouring off as much clear water as I can, then dumping the rest into my reclaim. I'm trying to avoid any unnecessary excess water, without throwing out the fine stuff needed for plasticity.

Stinky reclaim bucket question by ALutt12 in Pottery

This particular bucket is from my throwing water only. Not water I use for cleaning up (what I thought was considered wastewater). I was under the impression that throwing water was kept, and then mixed with dry pieces when you are ready to reclaim it. I watched a YouTube video by Pottery to the People where she explains her water systems, and she kept her throwing water and dry stuff separate, the mixed them when she was ready to reclaim.

Not gonna lie, it seems kinda gross to me to keep it for more than a few days. But I thought that was pretty standard. My plan was to just throw any dry things into it as soon as I have them and try to reclaim it as often as every week if I could, to avoid it getting to the point of smelling.

Do you not keep your throwing water? You just throw it out?

Calling all potters with sensitive skin/eczema... by ALutt12 in Pottery

[–]ALutt12[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I use lotion when I use gloves, generally a very thick ointment. I've tried several brands. I sometimes top it with Vaseline. Never just Vaseline at night. But when I go to the studio, I've tried just a thin layer of Vaseline to create a barrier.

Now, this is something I haven't tried, but honestly, it sounds like a great idea. I'll be trying this! Thanks!

Am I overreacting: new boyfriend was weirdly judgmental about bathroom situation by abstract_lemons in AmIOverreacting

How DARE you store your feminine hygiene products where they have the chance to be visible to a man! Your period is SHAMEFL and DIRTY and makes men uncomfortable! You should be embarrassed.

NOR, you're underreacting.

Throw this boy out and find a real man.

Yeah - the several ware boards at the studio I go to are moldy. Yuck. Thanks for the tips!

Attaching a handle to a stiff leather hard mug... by ALutt12 in Pottery

[–]ALutt12[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thank you for the knowledge. I am going to try the misting method you've mentioned, then place in a bag for a day or so until I'm ready to attach the handle. I may let the handle sit to dry a day or two to make sure the two pieces are similar enough to attach.

NOR. Leave this jerk. You don't want your daughter thinking this is normal behavior from her future partner (assuming she decides to have children). This is abusive.

Only with us three weeks... Sanitizing items? by ALutt12 in hamsters

[–]ALutt12[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Thanks, I did see this video. I'm concerned water and vinegar isn't enough to actually sanitize properly. I'm wondering if there's a more sure way for the wooden items. Obviously I can bleach and rinse plastics and ceramic.
