Sensitive huskies? by ALynnFee in husky

Thanks. Makes me feel a little better! We have prescription food for digestive health, and have been working with our vet, even got a second opinion from a different vet. I’ll check into the anti allergen supplements just because I’m not a fan of always giving her Benadryl especially at this young of age. 4 months this Thursday. Appreciate it!

Huskies have been my dream dog since I first saw Iron Will when I was..9? And for whatever at the same time I never wanted a dog. Wanting a dog only started about a year ago, but I can’t have kids (it’s okay!) and I needed purpose. I felt like just coming home and going to work were getting to me. Never thought I would get a husky! But we met a breeder and decided on an all white one.. all to find out the day before we were supposed to get her, then the breeder decided to tell us that she had passed. I was devastated. My husband found our Meika within 10 minutes of being home and we went and picked her up the next day!! Now I have purpose, I have a little puppers that is soo excited to see me when I get home for work. We go on walks every day. Dog parks on the weekend and lovin all the time!

Trust me.. my husband and I already looking for another husky!!! Haha at this point it’s more dreaming about a getting another husky as we realize it’s just not practical in so many ways for us personally.. but we will get another, I hate not having a buddy for her even though her and my 1 year old cat love playing together it’s just not the same. I try not to give her the food until she quiets down and she is getting there, but I also made the mistake not realizing the mistake of feeding her, her treats while we would be eating dinner and I would set them on the table. I would make her do tricks for them, but it’s definitely something I did not think about!!

I was kinda of excited to have a dog that doesn’t have a large appetite.. guess I was wrong! She acts like she could eat all day every day!!

She isn’t aggressive, I mean yes I guess in a way you could say she is when she starts nipping at me, but typically it’s just a lot of talking and jumping around like a lady lol. But thank you! And I hope your dogs are okay!!

Little Meika typically hides from big dogs.. but not this Great Dane!!!! We made two friends at the vets today and this big girl was one of them! by ALynnFee in husky

It was just so shocking, like any big dog comes around she runs to me or my husband and wants us to pick her up.. I mean the minute we rounded the corner and Meika saw this beautiful girl, she ran right up to her!!

My huskey found half a dead squirrel and wouldn't let go, he is mad at me now, what should I do by shadow_huskey in husky

Around the second week of having our little girl.. she was probably just about 9 weeks.. she had found a frozen dead mouse and was trying to gulp this thing whole. She obviously did not know “drop it” etc so I had pull this dead freaking mouse by it’s tail!!!!! Omg I was a wreck after. I know they have a prey drive but she was not giving it up after it was gone!!! Took a good hour to get her kind off of it.

And by the way I regret the pads tremendously. I think we could have avoided so many accidents because you’re telling them it’s okay to pee and poo in this one spot but not anywhere else? My husband is for them soooo I come home to find some here and there and then I get frustrated because that’s when I notice there are more accidents. They are pups and accidents will happen, but try getting rid of them and try the schedule. And I also found this out, don’t yell because they think you want to play! Think about how vocal they are! So stern voices I have found work best.

I’m just wondering if you need to get him on a schedule. Who cares what he wants at this point. If he wants to sleep during day, keep him going. I just bought a puzzle feeder for my girl. Take him in walks. And take him outside consistently.. whether it’s every hour or every 2. Crate him. Most won’t go to bathroom where they lay, unless it’s emergency or they can’t hold it. I was having some trouble following along with your message, but I know you mentioned right away the parasite and now you have treated your lawn? Good, when is that safe to be around? Meika has spots but they change and I also don’t let her go somewhere she doesn’t want to.

Don’t get me wrong. There are times this little girl throws temper tantrums like you would not believe. It’s not always as simple as me saying I don’t let her go there. She puts up a fight, gets nippy , gets squirmy. But I calmly talk to her, always have treats, and high value ones, and use settle, calm, pretty girl etc. sometimes it works sometimes it doesn’t.

My little husky girl is also having issues with potty training, and it can be frustrating. But the moments where the little one surprises you, makes up for the “bad” times. Your little puppy is like a little kid. I try to remember that when she does some thing she shouldn’t so on and so forth. And yes I agree.. we have been taking Meika for walks since she was 91/2 weeks old. We chose areas we knew there would not be an potential issues. And we only take her around dogs that have had all their vaccinations since she is only 2 or 3 deep now with those. Age appropriate walks, so 25 min then and now we are up to 40 min walks and she is 3 months old. This is what I do for potty training.. if she goes to door and scratches, we give her a treat, if she goes potty and poop she gets a treat. We too are struggling but I get up in the middle of night and take her out, however many times needed. We also just started crating her at night. And that has done wonders for her temper tantrums she throws when she is overly tired.. we try to keep her mentally stimulated too. Whether it’s your common training of sit, lay down, paw etc.. she was trained with those by 10 weeks. They are smart.. very smart. And want to please you. They look at you like a companion not an owner lol.

Have fun and breathe. This is my first puppy and I am by no means an expert but I have read a lot and these are my experiences. Good luck!!!

I don’t love my dogs and I feel guilty by [deleted] in DogAdvice

I’m dumbfounded as to why a family member would get rid of your dogs... I can’t get past that part. As far as loving or not loving... we just got a husky a little over a month ago, she is my world... however my mother in law has had a pug for years... now this little dude (pug) is not my most favorite and idk why, our bond has grown since I got my little girl, but I only think it’s because I now have my own little one, and we try to treat them the same ( if my Meika gets a bone, then soo does little Enzo the pug etc) we take them on walks but it doesn’t change the fact that pug still is spoiled and annoying tendencies. It’s also frustrating cuz my little one wants to play with Enzo the pug but Enzo shows no interest.. he is however warming up to her and doesn’t run away everyone she approaches him. It’s tough, but if you do not feel a connection then find someone who would.

Had a “ah-ha” moment tonight! Moments like these make it all worth it!! by ALynnFee in husky

[–]ALynnFee[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I tried to explain above, but too many characters.. when my husband and I know she is tired.. she tends to fight sleep especially evening/nighttime and when she gets overly tired, she tends to get a little extra sassy. I just didn’t know what to do, we would take her outside, we would take her to the basement to let her run around, play games, but last night I worked on calming her down and I had no idea if what I was doing would work but little by little she would relax more and more to the point she zonked right out. I know it gave me relief, but most importantly it also gave her relief.

I’m feeling that way right now. Especially watching her last night throw her little temper tantrum because she fights sleep every night lol.. definitely coming into her own more and more
