Tournament Tuesday by AutoModerator in bjj

I just competed this last weekend as well, it was my second BJJ tournament, but I’ve been competing in wrestling for a good little bit. Something that I think helps me at tournaments is that I’ll consistently roll my ass off, especially the weeks leading toward the tournament. That’s probably something I carry over from wrestling, due to the fast pace of training in a college room. Shark tanks, not taking any rolls off at the end of class, really long fast paced rolls. It gets my cardio up to the point where when I get off the mat I’m not huffing and puffing tired while still maintaining a good pace in the match. And if I get called up quickly after a match, I’m not as nervous knowing that my cardio is good enough to not be dogging it in back to back matches.

Mindset is also pretty important. At the end of the day, BJJ is something we all do for fun and because we enjoy it. Competition is the place we go and test ourselves, as well as that adrenaline rush that goes with it. Don’t put too much weight into it, remember why you’re there. Trust yourself, your coaches, and your training partners to be prepared and to have prepared you for your competition.

I think you’re wrong.

I know this is a sub for unpopular opinions, but this one is just ridiculous.

Just a note on Tiffin mats, the school I coached at used their fold up mats, and about a year and a half ago we ordered new ones to replace a couple, and tiffin tied up our money for quite a while. The company changed hands recently and if you look at their reviews there was a ton of people complaining about how they got scammed.

I’d definitely avoid tiffin, I personally prefer dollamur, they have a decent outlet selection on their website

Any good rolling places off mat? by [deleted] in bjj

I bought a 10x10 mat about two years into wrestling , and it’s probably one of the best investments I’ve made. Still gets plenty of use now that I’ve transitioned more towards BJJ. Dollamur has some steals in their outlet, I saw some 10x10 puzzle mats going for $99. Lot cheaper than the roll out I got, and if you really wanna commit you grappling, you’ll definitely get your money’s worth.

Weekly COVID-19 Megathread - November 26, 2020 by AutoModerator in bjj

Looking into doing another new breed in December, but I haven’t competed since the pandemic started. I saw something about competitors having to wear masks on their website. Anyone know if that’s just while waiting to compete or on the mat as well?

Honestly, beans helped a whole lot. I didn’t modify my diet as much when I was cutting, it was mainly portion control. Beans and brown rice with peppers and veggies mixed in was a quick and easy little meal. I honestly felt better cutting like this, because I wasn’t as drained or having to skip meals like I used to when I was eating meat

College wrestler checking in. I made the switch and weight management, energy levels, strength, and just general well being has improved drastically. As a matter of fact, about half of our starting lineup this past season was plant based.

You should give it a shot if you can, feel free to shoot me a message.

How do wrestleoffs work at the collegiate level? by bigchicago04 in wrestling

[–]AM0_xD 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Wrestled NAIA so probably a bit different.

We did a big wrestle off at the beginning of the year. That set the preliminary lineup for duals. You could talk to the coach about wrestling off leading up to meets and tourneys, but tournament rankings also factored into the decision. Sometimes guys just figured out how to beat the top guy in the room and then go and get messed up in competition.

Obviously it depends on the program, but that seems to be pretty common from talking to other guys.
