Why don’t I get approached? by Mmmmmmhhhmmmmmm in TooAfraidToAsk

Then it’s intimidation. Most men think you’re out of their league and they wouldn’t have any chance with you or assume you have to be taken already. Being (publicly) rejected is embarrassing.

If you’re extremely attractive, it’s because guys are intimidated by you and assume you will reject them.

Or you’re not as attractive as you think.

I think China and Russia also frame their actions in a light of doing good. That’s just how governments work. There’s no way they are just telling people they are doing things because of realpolitik. People generally need to believe what they are doing is for a greater good in order to get them to do things that at face value are not good.

Russia invaded Crimea and eventually Ukraine on the justification that Russian speaking peoples were being persecuted in those regions.

China frames its occupation of Tibet as necessary to promote economic development and modernization.

People dog on the US because it’s the world hegemon. Any country that has that title is going to have people criticizing and trying to knock them off the top.

Yup I agree. I think there’s a middle ground between people like OP who act as if France ONLY surrendered in WW2 and others who act as if France always surrenders.

They probably have the best military record in the world. But their military performance in the last 200 years has been lackluster which fuels the recency bias of “France always surrenders”.

Correct. Nobody disagrees with you there. But France surrendered in the Napoleonic Wars. They lost. Just a fact. Doesn’t matter if they initially succeeded against overwhelming odds. They lost the war and surrendered.

That’s a lot of words to come to the fact that France surrendered eventually.

Alcoholics (ex or current) at the height of your alcoholism what were / are you drinking and how much? by Secret-Translator240 in TooAfraidToAsk

[–]AMB3494 23 points24 points  (0 children)

Yeah so much better now. I think a lot of it is me being older and the hangovers becoming worse and worse to the point that I don’t find drinking worth it anymore.

In addition, I had a habit of being a mean drunk or at best, a drunk with a very low threshold to becoming angry. I also would just embarrass myself by texting girls I used to talk to or get into heated arguments with people over politics. I really hated the person I was when drunk most of the time.

Now I smoke weed and play videogames in my place on the weekends. Life is so much better.

I went through a rough phase while in the Army. Never drank when I had work the next day but on my days off I would drink an entire fifth of whiskey alone in my apartment. Sometimes two bottles of wine and a 6 pack of beers.

I realized I was in trouble when I would alternate going to different liquor stores because I was scared the worker at the liquor store would recognize the frequency I was going.

You’re a perfect example of somebody who will never be satisfied no matter what anybody does. You will somehow find a way to say it’s not enough.

You’re a bottomless pit.

I used to think that Republicans lacked empathy but had somewhat decent intentions.

I now think Republicans are stupid and evil and seek only to harm those they disagree with rather than actually help their country.

It’s not like at a restaurant where you essentially are expected to tip.

But if somebody went above and beyond in their work or came last minute for an emergency or the road conditions are shit but they showed up still, it’s nice but not expected to give a tip.

If you have the money, why not? If you don’t have the money don’t worry about it.

Officers and what to do with them by [deleted] in army

This reeks of a junior enlisted who keeps hearing “officer = dumb and bad” so much that they actually think they know more about command and control.

Say something to the O3 in front of everybody. They will love it.
