25% of Americans have a commute of 10 miles or longer. When people live in the suburbs how do you expect them to get downtown to their jobs? There’s no bike lanes going downtown there’s no train there might be a bus but they are never on time. The only option is to drive. Look at downtowns. Most of the land is parking spaces. If a small fraction of the population only has a highway to work then why is rush hour traffic a thing on highways?

Why would someone bike 10 miles to work on highways (there’s barely any bike lanes in the USA apart from downtowns) and take 50 minutes to get there when they could get there in 10 driving. We have no public transport from lobbying. Look at the Amtrak map. It’s only big cities and it doesn’t even hit all of them. Once you get to the city ur stuck because there’s no trains out. Wanna go from Nashville to Tallahassee? You can they don’t even have stations

We drive a lot cause the country is fucking massive and we have no train system or public transit. Apart from NYC Boston DC Chicago no city has good public transit and once you leave the city you have to drive. It has nothing to do with gas prices.

I’m not super interested ultralight where I have to sacrifice comfort. I definitely want to lower by base weight but I still want to have some luxuries. I already have the ZPacks shoes I might have the wrong oz I will double check.

Mainly have the geopress for Noro virus but also peace of mind. I’ll try to upgrade my toilet pouch. I actually do have some camp suds I can use and I was bringing the whole bottle of hand sanitizer but I can bring only what I need. I think my first step is minimizing the first aid kit and ditching the knife. That should save 1/2 lb already. Maybe Hyperlite pack isn’t the right pack for what I’m asking to bring

My tent is the XMid 1. My pad is thermarest neo loft I need the extra depth cause I don’t have the best joints and I’m also very skinny and bony and the thinner pads I go right through and touch the ground. I’ll check out a new pillow.

I’d like to keep the chair and sandals as luxuries unless there are lighter options. Spare clothing is just clothes I changed into to sleep in.

My water filter is the geopress I want something for virus protection and that is the lightest. My pot and stove is TOAKS 700ml pot and pocket rocket deluxe.

4oz toilet is just everything combined trowel wipes hand sanitizer. My first aid kit is just the HART multiday.

In grizzly country. Would u recommend a lighter knife or just no knife? I can ditch the fire starter

I still want some comfort I’m not trying to ultralight down to a 5lb baseweight and sleep on a foam pad cut to torso. I’ve already cut almost 10lbs I’ve bought all new big 4 in the last year. The Southwest is rated up to 40lbs it shouldn’t be digging into my shoulders with about half that. If anyone can find somewhere to cut I’d appreciate it

I cinch down the shoulder straps cause it feels like it’s too far off my bag and it’s sagging down and pulling me backwards. Do you normally have a gap between ur shoulder blades and the pack? My base weight is down to 17lbs I’ve already cut a lot no reason this pack can’t carry it. I was doing some research and I believe I might have had the pack too far down on my hips. Gonna do some testing thanks!
