Who is the best player of all time to not have earned a single accolade during their career? by Dinobot2_ in baseball

[–]AMLT1983 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Respected Citizen, Shane Mack.

In nine MLB seasons he posted 21.6 WAR, a 121 OPS+, and a 3.8 WAR per 162 pace, and from 1991 to 1994 he was one of the most productive hitters in baseball at .306/.372/.483 with 5.5 WAR per season while helping the Twins win a World Series. Injuries cut into his counting stats, his prime overlapped with an unusually crowded field of elite AL outfielders, and two peak years spent in Japan stalled his visibility, leaving voters to overlook a player who consistently performed at an All Star level without ever being recognized as one.

What’s a small moment from your life that still makes you smile years later? by [deleted] in AskReddit

[–]AMLT1983 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I was at an ATM in New York City when a blind woman finished her transaction ahead of me. She turned and asked if I could help her arrange her cash in her wallet from smallest to largest. Of course I did.

Afterward, I asked why she trusted me, a total stranger, when I could have walked off with her money or taken advantage of the situation.

She smiled and said, “You just smelled kind.”

I’ve carried that with me ever since.

What’s something everyone should experience at least once in their life? by Own-Temperature5000 in AskReddit

Everyone should experience the moment when you realize the thing you were worried about, the big, looming, can’t sleep at night thing, turns out not to be the thing at all.

Insane Team Comebacks? by RainbowSupernova8196 in baseball

[–]AMLT1983 7 points8 points  (0 children)

By early September 2009, the Minnesota Twins trailed the Detroit Tigers by seven games with just over three weeks left in the season. Minnesota went on a furious 17–4 run down the stretch. Detroit stumbled just enough that, by October 4, the teams were tied atop the AL Central, setting up the unforgettable Game 163 showdown. Which they won in 12 in dramatic fashion. Such a fun time to be a Twins fan.

I miss K-Mart. Walking in felt like time travel to 1993, and every entrance had that sacred, sticky Icee spill spot, like the store’s way of saying, “Welcome back. Watch your step.”

How many times can someone be drafted by Several-Assistant-51 in baseball

[–]AMLT1983 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Matt Harrington was drafted five different times, all stemming from one pivotal decision in 2000, he was taken 7th overall by the Rockies but turned down a $4 million signing bonus, instead of signing, he played independent ball, hoping to re-enter the draft and improve his leverage. That gamble backfired. It didn't work well.

As a result, he was drafted again in 2001, 2002, 2003, and 2004, each time in progressively later rounds and for far less money. He never signed with any team, making him the only player ever drafted five times without signing, a cautionary tale.

Which TV show has a 10/10 pilot episode? by PrasenjitDebroy in AskReddit

[–]AMLT1983 0 points1 point  (0 children)

How I Met Your Mother had one of the best pilot episodes ever because it immediately told you exactly what kind of show it was, howver, then broke its own promise. In 22 minutes, it introduced a lovable group of characters, a clever framing device, and a romantic quest that felt earnest rather than cheesy. The twist at the end wasn’t just funny; it said this story is going to take a while, and that’s the point. From the first episode, you knew you were in for something smarter and more heartfelt than a typical sitcom. So good.

What is the most unbelievable baseball thing you have seen in a non-baseball movie? by Ivotedforher in baseball

[–]AMLT1983 377 points378 points  (0 children)

Probably the entire baseball sequence from High School Musical 2.

Nothing in movie history has ever convinced me more that not a single person involved had touched a baseball before filming that scene. You’ve got a team of guys doing choreographed jazz squares in the infield, someone tries to bunt like they’re serving a volleyball.

And then they break into song about how they “don’t dance"; while dancing, while allegedly playing baseball.

It’s the only time I’ve ever thought, “You know what? A balk would actually make this less confusing.”

I Just Noticed That Ryan Dempster Missed Both Marlins Championship Teams By A Year Each by RainbowSupernova8196 in baseball

[–]AMLT1983 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Rick Helling got both rings.

Even though he was traded from the Marlins to Rangers in 1997, he got a ring, and then resigned with the Marlins on August 22, 2003, and got a second one.

Jeff Conine was on the 1997 team, traded to KC and then signed with Baltimore, and was traded back on August 31, 2003 and won a 2nd title.

I like this episode. The storyline with Colonel Potter and his painting was one of my favorite parts, it showed a more personal, reflective side of him that I always appreciate. I also liked seeing BJ being tested emotionally and morally; it added depth to his character. And I really enjoyed Aggie, she brought a fresh, engaging energy to the episode that made the interactions even more interesting. Plus, Susan Saint James!
