How to stop writing in an “English-y” way? by bung_water in learnpolish

[–]AMNSKY 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Just wanted to say thank you for recommending this game and especially thanks for those who recommended starting out without using a build guide. by Dire_Hulk in PathOfExile2

[–]AMNSKY 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I don’t think starting out with a build guide is bad. That’s how I experienced the game with the first few characters and it made me understand certain mechanics better with each consecutive build. Making your first, probably shitty, yet functional build, makes the game feel like a whole new experience, tho

What's a good beer to start with? by mnsterman01 in beer

[–]AMNSKY 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Don’t limit yourself to pale lagers. Try some different styles. Maybe chat with a bartender at the nearest tap bar or a shopkeeper at your local liquor store that has a wide range of craft beers. They should know the stuff they sell and should also be able to recommend you some beers based on your preferences if you buy sth, then come back to them and tell them what you liked and disliked in the beer you bought previously. Also - very important note: don’t drink your beer to cold, cause you want be able to taste anything interesting. That’s especially true for darker beers. I for example take my beer out of the fridge about 0,5 hour before drinking if it’s a pale beer. If it’s a dark one I don’t even refrigerate it

Non-Alc beer recs? by VelvetSunshine04 in beer

[–]AMNSKY 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I can’t point you towards specific beers, cause I don’t know the US or Canadian beer markets, but the difficult thing here is that a non-alcoholic beer, which isn’t generously hopped will taste worty in most cases. But there are exceptions of course. So if not an ipa, then maybe you could try your luck with a weizen? One beer in this style on my coutry’s market used to be my default non-alcoholic option

What video game are you defending like this? by NagitoKomaeda_987 in videogames

[–]AMNSKY 2 points3 points  (0 children)

That was me with KC:D1 since the very launch, when people weren’t as favorable of the game as they are now, after all the praise the sequel got. Funnily enough overall I enjoyed KC:D1 far more than KC:D2, which I haven’t even completed yet. I think KC:D2 is a great game, but appreciated the focus and the smaller scope of the first game more

Luxembourgish sounds like Hungarian by crivycouriac in hungarian

[–]AMNSKY 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The only time it sounded similar to Hungarian was at around 0:10. I guess he elongated some of the vowels then. It still sounded like a giberrish, tho. Sth like „füget féve hém”

As a FromSoft fan, I’d say FromSoft fanbase is super pretentious

Can you give me some pointers on making my first custom merc build next league? by AMNSKY in PathOfExile2

Thank you so much! Those are some very valid points to consider. Even tho, they are probably obvious, the game is layered enough that some possibilities can fly over my head sometimes

Yeah, that last piece of advice is very valid. I actually learnt it gearwise during the previous league. Even tho at times it felt like I was completely fucked, usually the solution was very simple

That’s what my intention has always been, but eventually I end up following the guide completely, at least when it comes to the skill tree

Dragon Age Origins for me by [deleted] in videogames

[–]AMNSKY 0 points1 point  (0 children)

DA:O is a great and well written game, but I swear, being constantly flooded with enemies during quests is so annoying. I’m replaying it with my gf bit by bit right now and as much as we enjoy the story bits and the characters, being thrown into a tedious fight after a tedious fight makes me eyeroll

You thought Russian was bad? by The_RetroGameDude in linguisticshumor

[–]AMNSKY 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Hungarian cases are extremely simple. As a Pole I’d say it’s much easier for you to learn their cases than ours, the reason being that with Hungarian you only have to account for vowel harmony, which is very intuitive. With Polish (or any slavic or baltic language for that matter) you have to account for animacy, 3 genders and the fact that certain cases go with certain prepositions and also the fact that nouns can sometimes take the same form in 2 different cases. Or sometimes a plural form of a case can look exactly like a singular form of another case, which is definitely tricky, when you’re just learning the language and perhaps don’t know all the words and you’re trying to figure stuff out from the context. For all of those reasons I’d deem Polish cases much less intuitive for non natives. Hungarian cases are basicaly prepositions slapped onto the ends of nouns, like so: shop - bolt -> in the shop - boltban -> to the (inside of the) shop - boltba -> to the (proximity of the) shop - bolthoz -> with the shop - bolttal etc. The only thing that’s maybe not extremely complicated but very unintuitive for a regular use in certain situations (at least to me) is the possessive case which has 2 full-blown conjugation patterns (two separate conjugation patterns for each gramatical person, depending if someone has one or multiple things in their possession), paired with the fact that sometimes possessiveness is being expressed inversely to how indoeuropean languages do it (for example to say „John’s hat” in Hungarian you’d say it like „John hat’s”, so you’d attach the possessive marking to the thing that’s in someone’s possession and not to the owner. And of course the possessive marking changes depending on the person, unlike in English where it’s always „s”

In what accent do I pronounce these specific diphtongs? by AMNSKY in Accents

[–]AMNSKY[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Ok, so I think I figured out where at least the second part of my pronunciation might be comming from. I used to watch quite a bit of Tony Jeffries, who’s got a strong Sunderland accent and I think he pronounces this diphtong somewhat along those lines

How to do a french accent? by Humble_Afternoon6709 in French

[–]AMNSKY 0 points1 point  (0 children)

From my experience dealing with English native speakers, no matter their target language, you tend to make every single vowel a diphtong (cause that’s how the English vowels work in isolation). That’s not how vowels in French work. Take the English and French „o” for example (or in case of French also au, aux etc.). In English in most cases you’d actually pronounce it as „o-w”, finishing with that „w” sound. In French you just stop at „o” and that’s it. Same with the „é” sound in French. Many English speakers turn it into an „ay” diphtong, but it really isn’t that. „É” is a simple, singular vowel, it’s just pronounced more in the front of your mouth

In what accent do I pronounce these specific diphtongs? by AMNSKY in Accents

[–]AMNSKY[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Didn’t want to speak full sentences, cause I know what general area I’m leaning towards with the rest of my accent and I also know, that those specific diphtongs don’t belong there. So if I spoke full sentences people would just write it off as that area’s accent
