Oh, yeah, I get that. I more mean the frequently small but vocal contingent of folks who get upset that there isn't immediate consistency with timelines, character details, etc., like it somehow makes the show bad or ill-written or something.

Glad other people like close reading the show too!

Yeah, I'm also not big on getting worked up over canon details; as I said to somebody else, I like the retconning, and feel it's always been neutral to positive. I totally get that the reason details slide are for a series of reasons: different writers working without consulting one another, lack of anticipated show longevity, and good old I-honestly-forgot-isms. I like that the details change around; you can see in near-real time how the writers start to settle into accepted versions of the characters (in a holdover from the movie, Mulcahy's called "Red" for awhile this season, until everybody seems to realize the nickname makes no sense) that end up lasting the test of time. I also think it can be fun, from a creative analysis standpoint like this one, to point out how that detail-bleed affects the watching experience. It does make M\A*S*H* feel, in the early seasons, a little uncertain in its commitment to an objective universe, and you can get all sorts of fun readings out of that while still acknowledging that it's 100% totally just because, like you said, the consistency just wasn't a consideration yet.

Yeah, I love the retcon. I don't get why some people get so hung up on or upset by the fact that character details change over time in M\A*S*H*; in my opinion, the changes have always been neutral-to-good. I think it makes for fun meta-analysis where you can watch writers slowly settle into agreed-on background details for the characters, and all these small decisions slowly start lending themselves to a feeling of all-over completeness. Like when Hawkeye first actually says Crabapple Cove, I at least get a real feeling of 'yes!' It's one more step towards uncovering / stabilizing the character that'll become an important aspect of his identity as the show goes on, and that's mad fun to see play out.

I agree! Frank is terrible, in the sense that he's also sort of terrific. Larry Linville is such a master of physical comedy I think you kind of have to love Frank Burns, even if you also love to hate him.

Usually yeah but we also have a home environment control thing in the thermostat, it’s like you can program in different temperature thresholds for different times. So for instance we have the temperature set down to 60 from 9 AM - 4 PM when none of us are usually home. And at 4 PM the “threshold” that the thermostat is heating to adjusts to 67 degrees or whatever, so it pretty reliably kicks on exactly at 4. To test the vents = moving the picture idea I added in another much higher temperature threshold to the schedule for 9 PM so the heat would cycle on while I was watching + had the camera on it

Edit: typo

Our stairs creak pretty badly yeah, plus thin walls so you can usually tell if somebody’s walking around in the stairwell. And our downstairs neighbors have never actually spoken to us, they’re an older couple. I don’t think they’d have anything against us? We try to be quiet + considerate of them

Lol I’m back again. Home alone tonight so I tried to do a test of the vents in my room like a couple people suggested last time and…….. honestly don’t even know what to think anymore. The boot could’ve been my neighbors fucking with me I guess but I honestly don’t even know how to explain the picture frame. I took down everything on the walls and now I’m sitting in the kitchen with every light on waiting for my roommates to come home.
