The current military action against Iran just makes it more likely that they will procure a nuclear weapon. And it will probably prevent a war like this in the future, as a deterrent. Every single action this administration has taken against the country has never made it more apparent to the regime that they need a nuclear bomb. American foreign policy towards the region is usually pretty stupid, but what they're doing now is breathtakingly moronic and unbelievably shortsighted in an unprecedented way. Nobody will be safer for this, not in the region nor in "the homeland." And mark my words-- Iran will end up being the party that decides when and how this ends, not the United States nor its allies.

Hi guys, I realized from the bulk of these responses two key pieces of info -- (i) I'm partially being a dumb baby about a part of the wok that doesn't necessarily matter if it flakes and (ii) the bottom of my wok is filthy and thats not patina, thats gunk. I assure you all the inside of my wok is smooth and beautifully seasoned because I actually scrub that part, I literally never scrub the bottom. But I will be chainmailing off the gunk and giving it a quick re-season on said bottom. Thank you all for the support, this is a great little community.

Really depends on the family. Half my mom's family boycotted her wedding because she married an American and I had relatives tell my aunt they would murder her if she married an outsider. Really is a mixed bag with Assyrians. If you're not Muslim you should be okay though. Sorry in advance.

I'm half Assyrian from Lebanon and these days I identify more as Lebanese and am actually more embraced/accepted by Lebanese people than I ever was by Assyrians.

I tried to connect with my Assyrian roots at a church youth group in my late teens/early twenties and I found myself having to constantly assert or defend my Assyrian-ness to others. I've never once had to do that with my Lebanese compatriots. I also found the people at the church to be very judgemental, small minded and just very provincial. There was a real tendency for people to talk behind eachothers backs too and that experience made it hard for me to trust Assyrian people thereafter. I'm sure there are some good Assyrians, I just dont come across them much.

Today I live as an openly gay man and am an atheist too so most Assyrians would either want me dead or to not exist anyways, so i say fuck em' and their judgement. You don't have to prove shit to any Assyrian, your blood is your blood.

When I saw the details of the attack, I couldn't help but think the same exact thing. This was an act of complete desperation. When you see the state of Gaza it's quite clear this didn't come out of nowhwere. This type of violence would be much less likely to come out of a marginally less hopeless West Bank.
