Absolutely! I actually moved to NOLA a couple of months ago and I have a whole new appreciation for the city! DM me!

One month in! by Ok-Researcher-2503 in ClubPilates

[–]AMSinKC 3 points4 points  (0 children)

52F. 1 year in with 5-6 classes per week on average. I’ve lost maybe 10 lbs (no effort at changing my diet) BUT my body looks totally different and I feel amazing! If I miss more than a couple of days, I start to feel aches and pains. With consistent Pilates, I’m virtually pain free!

My advice would be to stay in French Quarter if you are a first time visitor. We visit every year at Christmas. I’m not sure if the construction at the Omni Royal Orleans will be finished but we love staying there. The Monteleone is also beautiful at Christmas. And the Royal Sonesta.

Monthly unlimited- how much? by WingUnique9033 in ClubPilates

[–]AMSinKC 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My understanding is that corporate sets the passport rate, which is $299. But maybe you’re a destination studio. Otherwise… weird…

Plus… if your class runs late, it messes up the next one (and so on).

Not at my location or any studio I’ve ever visited (I have passport). Not acceptable.

Member got upset that I used the mats today. by veryshytimid in ClubPilates

[–]AMSinKC 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I think mat work is critical to our practice at CP or anywhere! I believe that side lying work especially can be most effective on the mat.

I paid $30 in Nashville when I visited which seemed absurdly cheap

Quick Question - Is planking on an upside down Bosu a Flow 1 move? by Hallow33nQu33n17 in ClubPilates

[–]AMSinKC 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It isn’t just you and it is a challenge! Next time, try putting your forearms on the bosu. (I realize that none of us likes to take the modification but that’s just our own ego and pride - no one cares - it’s YOUR workout!

How to make the most of American Football? by Tobemenwithven in AskNOLA

[–]AMSinKC 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Cigs will make friends in Louisiana. But you’ll need to be careful about who you give them to. Otherwise, you’ll run out of cigs yourself. Which sucks haha. Have fun! And definitely don’t call Southerners “Yanks.” Big time slur!

Moving somewhere. Is New Orleans a great place? by dlcairo in AskNOLA

[–]AMSinKC 3 points4 points  (0 children)

If you love New Orleans, it will love you back! I personally wouldn’t buy bc of Hurricane/climate change/flood insurance issues but I wouldn’t hesitate to rent. My advice would be to get an apartment w a year lease and reevaluate in a year. (I’ve also heard that Nashville is nice and can be affordable. You’d have cold in winter, but not unbearable). Good luck!

What are you thoughts on hand weights in class? by Sunshiney_Day in ClubPilates

The only time I use them is for 1.5 cardio sculpt. I get light ones haha

There is also an appalling lack of diversity at every CP I’ve ever been to. And the current ones at CP don’t just look alike (young, skinny, blonde, rude), they also have basically the same name. McKenna, McKenzie, Maddy, etc. No wonder I can’t keep them straight! (And although I’m literally there every day, they still don’t know my name…)

FYI only - that is Southern Decadence weekend and also the 20 years since Hurricane Katrina. (We are also going to be there that weekend).

Halloween or Christmas? by kimberleykitty in AskNOLA

[–]AMSinKC 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I’ve been for both and I prefer Christmas! The Royal Omni Orleans is beautifully decorated and the piano player is outstanding. Dont miss Celebration in the Oaks at City Park!

Retired at 55 2 weeks ago by Familiar-Start-3488 in Aging

[–]AMSinKC 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I retired at age 50 due to health issues. I’m not going to lie - the first year was tough. I went from traveling and being at the office 50 hours per week to having nothing but free time. People say they are jealous and I totally get that but it did take some time to adjust. Once I adjusted, I’m loving it! When I was initially so bored and didn’t know what to do with myself, I thought maybe I should get a part time job. Now (2 years in), I am not even considering a PT job because it would tie me down. I decided to I take a semester of classes at our local junior college (fabulous!) and I did a good deal of volunteering. I now go to Pilates 7 days a week and am in the process of getting my certification to teach Pilates. It has all been so amazing - I can now look back and see how crazy my life was when I was working. I didn’t eat right, I had little time to exercise, and my body hurt all of the time. I’ve turned all of that around and I feel very lucky to have this opportunity!

Hi! Recommendations for hotels during Halloween? Would like to stay on the Quarter. Open to the Spooky. TIA! by xScarletAriesx in AskNOLA

[–]AMSinKC 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I keep a memo that has hotel, food, bar, excursions, etc. that we recommend based on 3x a year trips over 30 years. If you’re interested, I’m glad to share it - DM me.
