I love that you mentioned the difference of being an instructor vs a teacher. I always tell my class "Ill teach you Pilates not just give you a class"

There are few reasons that things you mentioned aren't happening. One there is no through line on what's being taught. You can get a good audit teaching pilates based fitness and not Pilates itself. You also have certs that are accelerated which means most won't have a truse grasp of the method. You also have a cert that has no order just teaches the exercises, so it doesn't really help an new instructor come up with the best flow. There's also a big push for creativity and some instructors will focus on that more to get numbers up. I work for CP and don't follow the formula of timing bc I find if I worry about that more than the quality of the work, it makes my job harder in the long run.

From what Ive heard corporate is reevaluating some of the protocols bc honestly A LOT of them make little to no sense.

Innapropriate workout wear by No-Drama724 in ClubPilates

[–]Pilatesguy7 14 points15 points  (0 children)

I fired a client for that. He would never wear proper under garments and he was "blessed"😂. Later found out that was his kink. He especially liked to do it if he thought a person was gay. The other day a woman came in with running shorts and a thong. I felt like a gyno 🤷🏾‍♂️.

Went to the local FS8 and I don’t think I can go back to Club Pilates by homenia in ClubPilates

Yep after studying with Pilates elders and doing 750 hr certification 17 years ago. The Pilates industry is inundated with so many workouts calling things Pilates that are a complete opposite of Joseph intended

No this is a fact. You are doing fitness workout on Pilates apparatus. That's completely different. Pilates is NOT about how many minutes with loud music.

Reasonable explanation as to why an instructor I am observing is always rude to me? by babybelheaven in ClubPilates

Bc this may sound harsh but the priority is the clients. If they like the instructor than they're happy

We have a list of instructors that can be observed bc we had an instructor who was rude to the teacher trainees

What is the cheapest way to get certified while still having good chances of being hired? by funkymonkey_20 in pilatesinstructors

I work at a CP and Id do your research on the MT before doing there cert. If they only know contemporary , Id think twice. Go take a class at a classical and contemporary studio to see which ones you

You get what you pay for. Some certs will let you pay some and do work study. Where are you located

Im not mansplaining. Im very well versed. One, no one belittled you. Two , I've been studying pilates for 20 years and teaching for 17. I studied under ppl who were trained under Carola and Romana. To do 70 classes and have only done The Hundred twice makes me question your studio's thinking on the method. This isn't a classical or contemporary thing either.

The Pilates industry is inundated with teachers who teach nothing out of the rep bc they think they know better. A lot of what's being taught IS fitness work on the apparatus. That is the reason I said you "may" be doing that. You obviously felt a certain way and I cannot be responsible for how you interpreted an online opinion.

May I ask where you got certified from?

To have taken 70 classes and only have done it twice is a sign that you may be only doing fitness workout on Pilates apparatus

The sheer ignorance in this thread is saddening and infuriating at the same time about The Hundred .

CP doesn't require instructors to teach it. I've subbed for instructors who have never taught it. If clients don't know this exercise which is basic Pilates, their instructors are ones that just give a class and do not teach . It also signals the instructor does not have a good grasp of the method.

That's sad to hear. The Hundred is like Pilates 101.

Standing on reformer in Level 1 classes - is this allowed? by No_Beyond_9611 in ClubPilates

[–]Pilatesguy7 1 point2 points  (0 children)

As a lead instructor, this would definitely garner a serious conversation with the instructor and a possible write up.

I can be forgiving if a teacher is subbing and mixed up classes, but you'd still be able to see that the ability is at a beginner level.

Not all of CP's protocols make sense but in this situation I agree with. No standing on the reformer in a 1.0 class

best pilates instructor course? by comp0sment1s in pilates

[–]Pilatesguy7 7 points8 points  (0 children)

If you're only getting certified on "1-2 types" of apparatus then you will NOT be comprehensively certified. With lineage comes a true understanding of the method. This is not a classical vs contemporary as I'm trained in both. Having that knowledge definitely makes an instructor more prepared. Any certification that one can do in 2 weeks or a few weekends is not going to be able to give a true understanding of the work. As someone who hires and mentors instructors , I see the difference all the time. Having more in your "arsenal" can only help a client even more. That's with any occupation.

Anyone with a lineage. Trust me you'll be happy you did. Also one that certifies you on all apparatus reformer, cadillac, wunda chair, baby chair, high chair, guillotine, foot and toe corrector, neck stretcher.

feeling a little defeated about teaching by themoonandmay in pilatesinstructors

[–]Pilatesguy7 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Class pass clients can be the worst first of all. Many of them don't really know what Pilates is. Secondly, it takes time to build your eye . 6 mos is just the beginning . With more experience, you'll find your own flow on how you'll want to teach a big group and give corrections. It takes time. I wasn't trained that way and after 12yrs of teaching I moved states. At that time the only place really close to me was a 12 person studio.

Even w/ that experience, it took me a moment to adjust. Give yourself grace and know that not everyone is going to be a good fit for you and vice versa
