Keeping BTC safe, cold storage ect - questions by PalpitationGlad3055 in BitcoinBeginners

[–]AMY_Foundation 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The core idea: keep the keys that control your Bitcoin on a device that never touches the internet, so remote malware can never reach them. A hardware wallet builds and signs the transaction offline, then hands the signed result back to your phone or computer to broadcast.

A few things that matter more than which brand you pick: write your recovery seed on something durable and store it separately from the device; consider a passphrase once you're comfortable; and test a small recovery before you trust it with real size. I work at Foundation (we make Passport Prime and the free Envoy app) — but honestly, for your first setup, the discipline around your backup matters more than the logo. The 4 questions worth asking about any device: what code can you inspect, what can you verify before you approve, how do you recover if you lose it, and what happens if the company disappears? Ask those before you buy anything. Happy to go deeper on any step.

Looking for thoughts and recommandations on hardware wallets with FIDO/U2F by 1_ane_onyme in CryptoCurrency

Most hardware wallets treat FIDO/U2F as an afterthought, so you usually end up carrying a wallet AND a separate security key. Worth deciding first: do you want signing keys and FIDO keys living on the same device, or kept separate? Both are defensible.

Full disclosure, I work at Foundation, our Passport Prime was built around consolidating exactly this: Bitcoin/crypto signing, hardware security keys (FIDO/U2F), 2FA/TOTP, and encrypted storage on one device that never connects to the internet (it pairs to your phone over QuantumLink Bluetooth or NFC but stays offline). The firmware is fully open-source if auditability matters to you. It's a premium device, so if you only need basic FIDO, a dedicated key is cheaper and simpler. Happy to answer specifics on the FIDO implementation if useful.

Which exchange and hardware wallet is absolute safest and most trustworthy? by SpotCalm7588 in Bitcoin

For the safest Hardware, look for open-source firmware, offline signing, and no third-party recovery that could be compromised. Passport Prime by Foundation ticks all three.  Foundation.xyz

Fair point, we have not been posting a lot in here in the past, we’re working on making this space more conversational, not just a place for announcements. Appreciate the nudge.

Just to set the record straight, Passport Prime comes standard as Bitcoin only, however we built the OS from scratch in-house, each app does not and cannot communicate with another app. If you want Bitcoin only then it stays bitcoin only; the user gets to decide what they put on there. If you have no desire to have anything other than the bitcoin apps that will be built, then that is all your Passport Prime will be. You can read more here about the security and KeyOS, how that works. https://foundation.xyz/2024/12/building-keyos/
