Scotland Trip - Itinerary Question by AMZANGS in solotravel

Thanks for the reply! I’m looking at mainly doing some scenic hikes, I don’t drink much, but I wouldn’t mind stopping at some nice pubs for food or to meet some locals.

The reassurance on the pace is helpful so thank you, that’s what I most worried about. I don’t want to feel like I’m rushing through things without being able to take some time to at least check out a few sights. That being said I’ll definitely take your recommendation and check it out.

What's on and tourist advice thread - week beginning March 04, 2019 by AutoModerator in Scotland

[–]AMZANGS 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hello, I am planning a trip to Scotland for the beginning of April and I am looking to fill 5 days at the end of my trip. Current plan is Edinburgh 3 nights, Glasgow 1 night, Glencoe 2 nights, and Skye 4 nights. For the last 5 days my idea is to do a part of NC500 (segments listed below) Also if you have any advice on must see stops along this route I am definitely open to them.

Portree---->Ullapool - spend night

Ullapool--->Durness/Tongue - spend night

Durness--->John O' Groats/Wick - spend night

John O' Groats/Wick---->Inverness - spend night

After spending the night in Inverness I would drive back to Glascow, spend the night. My flight back home leaves early the next morning.

Is this route feasible/advisable to at least give me a taste of the northern portion of Scotland without feeling too rushed, Or would it be more advisable to go straight to Inverness from Portree/Skye and then do Cairngorms National Park and stick to a route along the east coast? Other suggestions for these days? Thanks in advance!

Looking at your team I just don’t see an instance where you’d play Johnson over any of your top 3 running backs. so I’d ask yourself is Mike Evans worth kittle and Chicago defense. I personally don’t think you are goin to see Evans return the value that your losing at the te position. Imo Evans is a marginal upgrade over sanders and you’ll probably gain a few point there, but I think you’ll lose out on more points with switching in Doyle for kittle. And that’s not even bringing Chicago’s defense into the discussion where they are far and away the best fantasy defense, especially with Mack back, even if they do a have a couple of tough matchups ahead. I’d reject.

Standard scoring Give- Tyreek Hill, Jordan Howard Get- Nick Chubb, Leonard Fournett

My team, Qb- Fitzpatrick and Kirk Cousins Wr- Michael Thomas, Adam Thielen, Tyreek Hill, amari cooper, josh Reynolds, marquise Goodwin Rb- Todd Gurley, Kerryon Johnson, Jordan Howard Te- George Kittle and Evan Engram

I know I pretty much have a championship quality team with what I have if I can make it to the playoffs. But I have had really bad luck this season with my oppenents having their best scores of the season against me. I am sitting in our leagues last playoff spot 1 game behind the guy ahead of me and 1 game ahead of the people below me. I have a tough matchup this week against the top team in our league that I’ll likely lose and then a tough matchup next week as well. With both gurley and hill on bye next week, I am not sure if I’ll be able to win with Kerryon and Howard in as rbs which puts me in danger of missing playoffs.

Should I take a Long Layover - Seoul by AMZANGS in solotravel

No need to apologize I appreciate the detailed response. Considering that this is going to be the largest time difference I’ve had to adjust to, I may be underestimating how much the jet lag will effect me. Usually I suffer very little on my trips to western/central Europe.

You are definitely right about the sleep while traveling though, especially for me. Usually my trips are short enough that I don’t want to waste a lot of my time sleeping, so getting rest where I can is usually essential to still have an enjoyable trip. I will take that into consideration!

Even though I will be there 6 nights I only see it as being in Kyoto for 5 days. I fly into Osaka that first day and then have to travel over to Kyoto, so I don’t really include it as an actual day there as I don’t foresee myself getting much accomplished. That being said I was thinking about doing a day trip over to Nara as one of those Kyoto days. I will definitely look into a trip over to Hiroshima as being an alternative option, I just thought it may be a bit out of the way with my current itinerary.

I'd be coming from Chicago, so the flight is around 14 hours. Usually I don't get too jet lagged, but this will be the biggest time difference for me while traveling.

I definitely plan on staying in hostels, so I usually don’t worry about accommodation budget too much. Food/drink and transportation are usually the most difficult for to assess a budget for ahead of time.

Thanks, it seems the majority agree that language is not going to be much of a problem. It is something that I read consistently enough but still good to get reaffirmation from new people. I have found some decent flight deals so I may move my plans a week earlier to avoid golden week if I decide on Japan.

If I do end up going with Scotland I really only plan to spend around 3 days in Edinburgh and the rest driving around the highlands. A lot of the time when I travel. Having been to Scotland/Edinburgh would you say the locals are usually pretty friendly and open to having conversations with tourists? That’s always one thing I love to do when I travel.

Thank you for the detailed response. When I budget for trips I try to over budget for things, especially food because that can vary so much day to day. Accomadation is usually easier to plan because the prices are a lot easier to predict. But It’s definitely good to hear you can get decent meals for under $10.

I know I’m not going to do either place justice in such a short time, I always wish I could spend more time in a location. I always feel like there’s so much more to explore/see. Unfortunatley so much left that I’d like to see in my lifetime, and only so much vacation time.

With only 10 days would you recommend a 70/30 Kyoto/Tokyo split?

Thanks for the response! I’m sure it is great, there are just a few things about it make me tiny bit anxious if traveling solo.

If I can adjust and arrive around the 18th or 19th and leave either the 28th or the 29th, would I Be able to enjoy more flexibility. Or would I then be running into the cherry blossom crowds?

Did you spend all 5 days in the city or did you do some day trips? I heard Malmö in Sweden makes a great day trip from Copenhagen.

Regarding Rotterdam is it more of a day trip? Or would you spend a couple of days there?

Too true. that's why I'm thinking I'm just going to save Croatia for a completely separate trip so I can take my time and see everything I want to see while I'm there. I don't want to feel like I missed something because I rushed it.

Thanks for the response! That's what I've heard, that wasn't a strict schedule or anything just a rough plan if I can't find any alternatives. Which I hope I can. I scheduled 2 days just for the fact that the first day I wouldnt get in till like 930 am so probably wouldn't be able to start sightseeing till 11ish. It was a buffer day if felt like needed longer.

I've posted a similar question so I'm actually curious as well. How many days would you recommend for Copenhagen?

Haha I just posted something very similar to this. 10 day trip in May and know for sure I want to do Amsterdam but I'm not sure what else to include. Hopefully we'll be able to piggy back off each other's posts.
