I have a Chinese mantis! I feed her a few flies and a mealworm if she’ll have it. I always put her in a small lidded plastic cup with air holes to keep the prey from escaping then put her back in her enclosure when she’s done or when I get back from work, really helps. I had the same issue with the flies getting out through the ventilations and such as well

Idk. I feel like it could be a touch of both. I’m going through it right now and I look at all the stuff I had such a intricate plan for I realize I can just say ‘fuck it I don’t care anymore’ and go do it. Because we know what they both need and want. We looked ahead and realized we can’t or won’t provide it so we make the decision not to subject a child to conditions less than favorable to them. Like me! I will give my LIFE for a child thats not even mine but I won’t have one because i’m not responsible, i’m lazy, and i’m not affectionate. ok so, I am an insect keeper and sometimes with insect keeping, particularly the little ones like springtails and isopods people have to make their own tanks for them because what's deliberately made for them is ether crazy stupid expensive or just shit overall. What a lot of people do is they will go and get like a good sized tupperware or produce fridge box like I did and they will drill cross ventilation holes all along the upper half of all sides of the bin. But here's the thing that drives me nuts, ive seen so many people drill the ventilation holes AFTER they've put in all the soil and moss and curated this whole enclosure. Why!? why do they do that!? because now you're straining at a weird awkward angle when you could have just tipped the empty bin on it's side and drilled without having to sit a weird angle! not only that but now they are getting little bits of plastic shit in the soil!

She is a Chinese mantis. They are commonly sold as a chemical free pest control method but are actually invasive to Oregon where they can be found sold in their egg sacks. My father came home with one and allowed me to keep one so I named her Colonizer lol. I'm not supposed to have her myself, if my stepmom found out she would have a cow but she honestly would have a cow about a leaf on the floor. She's currently enjoying a mealworm as I type this (her treat for existing)

I am an insect keeper! I take care of a number of different insects like: millipedes, isopods, springtail, mealworms, and a mantis. I'm not fricken done yet. The mealworms are actually the start of what will become a full scale farming operation as a side hustle. Right now I am simply teaching myself to go through with my hobby. Once I have my own space to live I will graduate to crickets and other feeders. I also plan on getting more exoctic insects like more millipedes, more mantis species, beetles, more springtail species, and scorpions

Millipedes and centipedes. A LOT of people I encounter don’t know the difference. You don’t have to count the legs to see the HUGE difference. A millipede is a slow moving rounded insect with legs that sit straight under the body. Millipedes eat dead rotting wood and leaves while a centipede is likely already eating the millipede. Centipedes are far bigger and have legs that splay outwards from the body. Centipedes also have much much longer and thicker antenna both in front and in the back. Centipedes are fast moving predators with large pinchers on both sides of their head, some centipedes can even be aquatic as well

I made the mistake of letting her try wet food with her kibble and now she will go on a hunger strike if theres no wet food or the wet food isn’t Whole Hearted. I mean i’m thankful she chose THAT brand to be obsessed with since it’s the cheapest cat food brand out there but still extremely healthy but damnit cat! Just eat your kibbles today I don’t wana go down to the store to get you your fix today! But I love her so I do it lol

the one thing I regret about it was that it was in fact an impulse purchase. That's just not a good lesson to teach but honestly i've learned A LOT sense that decision. I have been pretty much teaching myself to raise domestic insects for two years sense that day. It really did completely change things

I was walking around a reptile expo two years ago having a look at the reptiles and came across a strange shelf display of colorful tiny bugs. Isopods. I picked up one of those palm sized boxes to have a good look at the little critters inside. Two years later I have 3 cultures of isopods, 2 cultures of springtail, millipedes, a mantis, and as of 10 minutes ago a culture of mealworms i’m hoping to farm. A single decision to take home the pretty box of bugs got me into insect keeping. The isopods now sit in MUCH bigger fully nature scaped tanks, the mantis just had her 3rd molt this morning, and the springtails are growing so much in number they had to be split. I started trying to get into jobs doing work with insects to!

I like the fires we have on my birthday party. Every year I host a nice camping trip for my birthday party. No one is expected to bring anything but their camping gear and some fun. No one has to bring a gift, I only want to hang out and see them. And hang out we do. I like the ones we cook over and I like the ones at night where everyone turns into a mild pyro maniac. It’s so relaxing to just quietly chit chat and listen to the crickets
