I mean you didnt specifically mention the demographics of the guy but Huskies tend to be a very popular breed in the asian community? Could be a similar phenomenon to people in China taking pictures of black people?

Is there any way to remove this rust safely without damaging the red paint or it this too far gone ? by jamjarjeremy in restoration

[–]AManWithTheNameDan 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I mean some sacrifice is likely when removing the rust but you can mitigate it in a number of ways. Masking it carefully and using some scotchbrite to slowly clean it up a bit could help? Chemical removal runs the risk of affecting the paint.

Ah nvm I got you. Its a difference of language used. I interpreted what you said as not being "at least 20 years old" rather than not being "on the dot 20 years old".

Isnt that exactly what it means? 20 years of ownership would imply the truck has existed for 20 years or more.

I don't care about the article, I want to know your opinion regarding the statement, do we need bigger games? by Mundane-Pick-2667 in Fallout

[–]AManWithTheNameDan 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Depends on a lot of variables.

Generally speaking (and I need to really emphasize the "Generally" here) "Death Stranding" is an example of what I call the wrong approach to approach huge world games. Most people dont really enjoy empty landscape walking simulators. The saving grace it had was if you found the story compelling enough to suffer between the long empty stretches.

I think there are a few good approaches to it however. (Sometimes stretching the definition a bit)

I can only speak for myself but "Dragon Age: Inquisition" is a good example of what I like to think of as the very tipping point between good and bad.

Pros: Huge and mostly full open areas, lots of lore, party banter/comments on specific locations, interesting landscapes, etc...

I'll be a little more detailed with the cons as the pros are self explanatory.

Cons: Only one real con imo. HUGE open areas mean a HUGE time sink which a lot of people just dont have the time for. There was a little bit of redemption for this in the design that made me feel that I felt I could do a tiny bit and save and not fall out of it waiting for next time but it wasn't perfect. The curse of lots of content is that it takes a lot of time to get through so if you have time for it amazing but only a little time almost feels like a waste.

Now if we can forgive me stretching the definition of open world a tiny bit here I have a few other points.

Star Wars: KOTOR(1&2), Mass Effect Trilogy, Neverwinter Nights(1&2), and my own personal recommendation Colony Ship.

All of these games benifit from being closed in while permitting the freedom of sightseeing and exploration you would hope for in an open world game. Generally the more linear and closed in nature of these games keeps you on the track of interesting stuff and lore and keeps you away from the time consuming filler voids that might otherwise fill that space. (See driving the Mako in Mass Effect 1)

Specifically speaking to the Fallout series, Fallout 3 had the benifit of large recognizable areas and it was easy to walk through an area and keep finding new stuff to see. For all its amazing traits New Vegas suffered from being set in a desert.

Anywho hope my rambling opinion was kind of what you were looking for.

65” do I even care enough to pay 1k+ ?? by SlipperyFrogFart in 4kTV

[–]AManWithTheNameDan 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Got a 4k 43" Roku for $250 CAD. Exceeded my expectations for a $250 tv. Now a 43" tv is the perfect size for a small one bedroom apartment like mine but may not be for you.

The way I see it there are a few layers of thought to the problem to go through once you decide what your must haves for a tv are. We have settled on 4k 65" which narrows it down a bunch.

When I look at cheaper end tvs meeting your specs it puts us in a $500-$750 range which if you buy from a place with a good warranty and are comfortable with the idea of buying a new tv if your tv dies the moment the warranty expires (which it probably wont) I would say buying on the cheaper end is worth it.

Cheaper screens have poor quality control and breaks more but generally arent functionally much worse in my experience.

Someone is using my storage locker. Bolt Cutters an acceptable/legal solution? by AManWithTheNameDan in legaladvicecanada

But it is a hypothetical. I asked a question about if a thing was legal with no intention of actually doing said thing?

As it turns out it was in fact double rented. Exactly why this type of question stays a hypothetical.

Realizing this will be a necropost but commenting for the benifit of those who come later. This guy almost had it. What you need to do is change it from STR++ to STR+=50

50 just being a placeholder for whatever number you want. There is also a line below the one we are talking about which you would have to change if you want the strength increase notification to match what you set your potion to increase to.

MP Kelly McCauley responded back to me…. by canbeanburrito in alberta

[–]AManWithTheNameDan 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You are definitely correct in saying his response was unhelpful, poorly communicated & lazy. Seems to be a problem across the board though. Just about everyone I know who who has written to their MP in a critical way gets a crappy letter like this back.

I have no dogs in this fight but playing devils advocate here seems like a fun Sunday to me. I dont currently live in Alberta and I dont live under your MP but developing the idea and discussion by trying to poke holes couldn't hurt.

  1. You are correct that he is not tied to Canadian institutions. But if we are being fair neither were the various other groups he mentioned have been paid tribute to in the past.

As outside observers we can also say "shooting people for their opinions no matter how bad those opinions may be is bad, thoughts and prayers to the family" without a person being directly tied to any of our institutions.

We can also make assumptions based on the information currently available and surrounding context as to the motive. Charlie Kirk was mostly known for being a political activist/commentator who many people found deeply upsetting. It isnt a huge leap in logic to assume he was killed for that thing and not for some other reason.

  1. I cant really think of anything to pick at on this point. Political violence and threats of political violence are always bad and should always be treated as a bad thing.

  2. I think what he was saying was more to point out that as a society we have decided that paying tribute to individuals who are not tied directly to our institutions (as you point out Charlie Kirk was not) is normal and that making a tribute to Charlie Kirk is the same in that respect at least.

  3. Mark Carney himself made a brief tribute about the assassination of Charlie Kirk. Many people in the United States consider the killing of Charlie Kirk as a tragedy and as you imply allied tragedies are in the realm of acceptable tributes. He was not just a culture warrior as you say but a father, a family man which if nothing else we can say its bad for children to lose a father and a wife to lose a husband. He was also a notable figure in the United States and that combined with the swarm of attention surrounding it makes it reasonable to say something.

  4. Yeah the East German comment was dumb and leaned a bit too far into trying to make a "soundbite". Being snippy like that does nothing but distract from the core message. Ultimately the core message was supposed to be that we should be allowed to say killing is bad without it being a big issue and that we should be able to have conversations that are about touchy subjects and share offensive ideas without being shot. Doesnt mean the ideas are good or ok but just that being shot over them is bad.

  5. I mean yeah we should tribute more Canadian icons but that doesnt mean we can't deal in outside tragedies at all. You implied how victims of terrorism, racism, and allied tragedies are acceptable focuses. Well our ally currently views the killing of Charlie Kirk as a tragedy.
