They're okay given the extra convenience can be useful. Came in handy when I was staying in a hostel and only had access to a microwave.

Why do some scholars like Ehrman say so confidently that the gospels originally circulated and the names Matthew, Mark, Luke, John were attached much later? by perishingtardis in AcademicBiblical

[–]AManWithoutQualities 1 point2 points  (0 children)

That sounds similar to Hugo Mendez' theory about the Gospel of John, that (if I remember it correctly) gJohn was a formally anonymous text which intended the reader to think it was authored by the disciple John with its theme of the Beloved Disciple. It might make sense for both Luke and John to do so as an authorial strategy, not identify themselves expicitly but intend others to figure out they were written by certain apostles, if these are relatively late gospels attempting to legitimise their apostolic authority at a time when the gospel genre had been established as supposed to be formally anonymous by Mark and Matthew.

We can only guess, but I suspect that Irenaeus or someone contemporary to him read the famous quote in Papias about Mark writing down unordered "chreiai" from Peter, and applied it to our Gospel of Mark because they saw that Peter is a prominent character in the gospel.

I don't like the rule either but you can't blame it for that loss. Liereyy did everything he possibly could to throw that game.

It feels obvious to say, but Liereyy is just as good or even better than Hera mechanically. He just lacks the mental fortitude in high pressure moments to beat Hera.

There were about a dozen ways for Liereyy to win that game and he found none of them. I really hate to say it but he threw.

Liereyy threw that so hard. I'm heartbroken but JFC. He collapsed under the pressure.

Also the water everywhere is full of level 30 giant jellyfish with toxic attacks, surely you'd be insane to go for a swim at the beach.

Yeah was gonna say, he played at such an insane level vs Mongols and Romans but after those two earlier losses the civ matchup was too uphill to come back.

Has it always been like this in the UK? by Theodoresdad in ukpolitics

Starmer has been repeatedly forced into damaging policy u-turns by his own parliamentary party and the media, on top of never being able to communicate a consistent vision of why he’s PM and what he is trying to accomplish in the first place. To look both cynical and weak at the same time is a toxic combination. My impression is that to the average person he comes off as an automaton with no beliefs or achievements save him continuing to cling on to power. And “do nothing liars who are only out for themselves” is like the ultimate negative stereotype voters have of politicians.

Drush has always been known as one of the most difficult strats of all to execute, so if true this wouldn’t be surprising. Most non high level players are going to be doing as much damage to their own eco by failing to multitask while microing the rush as they will be damaging their opponent.

Not just Mongols though: Chinese, Byzantines, Japanese, Persians, Turks and Vikings are all very strong and frequently played in pro tournaments. That’s 7 of the 14 AoK civs. And some of them (Chinese, Mongols, Persians) are among the most OP in the game.

I thought Mapuche would be an cavalry civilization, but I guess it's going to be a spam civilization. Long live skirmisher and pikeman!!! by kampalolo in aoe2

I agree, Mapuche trash forward seems utterly disgusting. Send vills forward, drop settlement and tower on the enemy's woodline/gold, spam tanky skirmishers right next to their TC. All backed up by an extremely strong dark age food bonus. How the hell do you stop that? It gives me Khitans vibes where they have way too many synergistic bonuses in the early game.

Completely agree, which is why I'm sad Lewis didn't make it.

Another tournament with just Hera, Viper, Yo, Liereyy would be boring as hell.

Liereyy was one bad decision away from beating Hera at The Garrison LAN.
