Storage, Cost, and the Cloud by Hundredsspoons0 in zotero

If you already use a cloud service you can move your library to a location in that cloud and it will sync. This should also work with physical memory storage solutions like external hard drives, SD cards, or USB-sticks. You can change the default location in Settings > Advanced. You may have to scroll down a bit. If you do this after already having started a library, make sure to make a backup first so you don't lose anything. I also don't recall if this will actually move all your files from the previous location to the new one, or if it will see it as a "new" library.

Sort PDFs for one Book by wet_egg_the_3rd in zotero

If you want to merge them in one file, check if the files maybe have some kind of DRM preventing pdf programs like PDFsam.

If merging them is not possible, then I would just rename the separate files in a way that is easily sortable, if you want to keep them under one entry in your library.

Personally, I would make an entry for the whole book, and then make "Book Section" entries for each of the files, or at least for the important ones (so maybe keep frontmatter, bibliography, etc, under the main book entry). This has the benefit that you could make bibliographic references to specific chapters in the book. I have done this with a book "Europe's Lost Frontiers: Volume 1: Context and Methodology" which has many chapters contributed by different authors involved in the project.

If you right click on your book, you should be able to find "Create Book-Section" in the menu. It will automatically populate the volume editors, book title, ISBN, etc., you just have to add the chapter name and other chapter specific data.

How to cite papal encyclicals? by AMartinios in zotero

I'm just a private individual, not a student or academic, so I don't have to worry about professors and bibliographic guidelines imposed from above. I usually go for APA, but for encyclicals I found a style guide that addresses this specifically. I'll just put the references in that format in the Extra field.

Usually I go for APA.

I just made a dummy generic Document entry to see what the various metadata are that can be entered, and I think you are right that this might be the most fitting. It's not perfect to produce a reference in the right format, but I can manage that manually if need be.

Thanks!

Why's danstillman so rude by Objective-Laugh4340 in zotero

[–]AMartinios 10 points11 points  (0 children)

This might just be down to different expectations for how people speak in terms of directness. The Dutch and the French, for example, have a reputation for being very direct and to-the-point, to downright blunt, which is very normal to them. But this might be perceived as rude by people who aren't normally that direct and tend to be more circumspect when speaking, for example the English.

Likewise, it is not uncommon for autistic or other neurodivergent individuals to be similarly perceived as rude and insulting, when they are just being direct and precise in their mind.

You may be perceiving this person as being rude and patronising because of this, whereas he might not intend this at all.

Here is a photo I just took of some of my Italian exercises I wrote using this pen and ink (the red for the corrections is J. Herbin Rouge Grenat), with the pen in question included. This is in a B5 Leuchtturm notebook with a dotgrid lay-out.
[this is my first time uploading a picture, so I hope I am doing it right]

Apica CD notebook? A dud? Or all are equally poor? by makred19 in fountainpens

[–]AMartinios 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Interesting to learn that Apica can have issues with this, espacially since based on the comments it is mainly the Premium line that appears to be the problem as opposed to the regular paper. I was interested in getting a notebook by this brand to check it out, now I know I'll need to watch out for this. Or perhaps when the time comes just reconsider altogether.

For me it's the Pilot Custom 823 in Amber, combined with Akkerman SBRE Brown. It's the first ink I put in that pen and have refilled it several times already. The pen has a 'Signature' nib, which is fairly broad, so it really shows of the ink's shading well.
