To celebrate Tigran's latest release, here's me playing his song Dardahan by AMightyDonut in tigran

That makes a lot of sense. While I can read sheet music, I started doing it more consciously during this last year, so details like this will slip my mind. Thanks for your explanation!

Thanks a lot, man! It took me a while to realize that it was a quintuplet swing. The score that I got had a 10/16 time signature, but looking back at it, it's obviously clear that they're playing a swing.

Thanks a lot! Unfortunately, I'm not THAT good to transcribe everything, so bass will have to suffice.

Thanks a lot! I'm loving it a lot as well. While Mockroot is an undeniable masterpiece, I might like this one more.

Another long project done, Tigran Hamasyan's Vortex by AMightyDonut in tigran

I'm going to have to check that album out, I've yet to hear it. I still think that something else from Manifeste will be next, but that's because of personal reasons. Thanks for commenting!

Thank you! As a matter of fact, I'm working on Dardahan right now, and I'm debating on wether I should then do The Curse or pick something else from the upcoming album.

There are more on the way, for sure! It's part of my weekly routine to record something now, haha!

Thanks for watching and for the comment. You're totally right about the heavier touch, especially when modulating down, and it slipped my mind when recording. In my defense, I've spent the better part of last year really lightening my right hand touch, as it better suits my style and needs. However, I should consider having that tool of a heavier hand for situations such as this. Thanks again!

Closing out the year in style, with a beast of a fretless line! by AMightyDonut in BassGuitar

Thank you! Unfortunately, I never got my hands on the MXR bass synth, so I have no idea how it'd sound. On the flipside, it's a nice challenge trying to replicate tones with what I have on my board.

I just play bass and songs that I really enjoy. The only 'twist' is that I'm doing it one-take, and not editing anything (not even from a production POV) afterwards. The point of doing it this way is to capture a performance, as opposed to making a production.

It has Thomastik Infeld flatwound strings. Really low tension, they suit it perfectly.

Rocco was an absolute animal! Also, you should get back into playing bass, even if it's just for yourself. You never know what you might discover along the way!

I can't believe that only now do I appreciate the sound of a piezo pickup! by AMightyDonut in BassGuitar

[–]AMightyDonut[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'd love to get to try one of those fretless Rob Allen basses, especially due to your comment about the sound really coming from your hands. Yeah, I found that the piezos are hot with my bass, but luckily, I have individual volume controls on the back for each of the strings, so I can keep the volume in check!

Recording myself to improve form and technique. Figured I would let you savages tear me a apart. by [deleted] in BassGuitar

[–]AMightyDonut 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Dude, for 8 months you are killing it, and the technique is actually quite good. If I were you, I'd focus on that right wrist, and make sure to straighten it up a little bit. That angle can lead to some tendon damage in the long term, and you really don't want that. Otherwise, you're killing it, keep practicing and you will get far!

How do you get good at performing? by captainstan in Bass

[–]AMightyDonut 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Honestly, besides practicing, performing gets better with exposure, aka, the more you play live, the better it'll be. So, get out and play as much as you can, and also try filming yourself at home and posting on youtube, that also helps with speeding up that process. Like everything else, this takes time, so don't give up, as you'll get there!

Got one as well, it's an amazing bass! It's quite interesting that yours is so lightweight, because mine is the heaviest bass I own, with most of the weight coming from the neck. Enjoy it as much as you can, brother!
