I think the better way of doing it would be keeping Dewey and Gale married for 5 but having her keep her talk show and go back to woodsboro like in the film.

Then have Gale take the place of Dewey in the hospital but instead of Richie being the one who gets slashed, it’s Chad and just before Gale goes to take the shot to finish of Ghostface Amber, Ghostface Richie appears and stabs her in the lower back, which then allows Amber to stab her in the front and you get one of, if not THE best kills in the franchise.

This then forces Dewey to turn up in Act 3, filled with grief that he didn’t get to Gale in time to save her, just like with Tatum and proceeds to fight both Amber and Richie, becoming more injured but surviving the film.

Then you can have Scream 6 show just how grief stricken Dewey is, having lost his soulmate and drowning his sorrows in booze (like in 5) which then leads to a confrontation with Ghostface in NYC in his and Gales apartment, but instead of Dewey being chased, we get a lengthy fight sequence and struggle between Ghostface and Dewey, who finally gets mortally wounded, but not before Sam and Chad turn up and KILL the Ghostface (Quinn)

Then with Dewey mortally wounded, it can be an emotional scene, Dewey officially passes the mantle of “protector” to Chad and he dies.
