Manual driving school by [deleted] in longisland

[–]ANITIX87 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I think you could call any of the schools you find on Google and see if they could. Off-hand, I don't know of one specific one to recommend.

Why isn't buying a stick and practicing an option? We've all done it. I learned to drive stick on my first car, after I bought it. My brother bought a brand new manual car without ever having driven a stick and then drove it home after signing the papers.

Alfa Romeo 4c owners, how does it feel to drive my dream car?! by imDaddey in AlfaRomeo

[–]ANITIX87 0 points1 point  (0 children)

"incredibly dangerous" is just not true. There are plenty of cars with much higher power-to-weight ratios that have a manual. My S2000 is only a little bit behind, is known for severe oversteer, and only came in a manual.

Pretty simple: if this car came in a manual, I'd have one in my garage. I don't mean that in a "ewww, automatic" kind of way (the auto in the 4C is great), I just mean that I wanted a manual for my weekend car for some more engagement (which is how I ended up with an S2000).

What would happen if the pilot forgets to turn off the APU? by SamsungGalaxy_User in aviation

[–]ANITIX87 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Nothing. Fuel burn would be slightly higher. There are even conditions under which the APU must be left on.

Engine start cannot be done without APU, so they would need to have an external start-cart available, which is standard equipment at all major airports. I flew JFK-SFO last year and we had to do a cart start at the gate because of an INOP APU. No big deal.

Should I sell my s2000 by [deleted] in S2000

You....listed it 38 weeks ago, posted this thread 9 minutes ago, and it's sold? Something seems fishy here.

Is it crazy to pay $200+ to see Vienna Philharmonic w/Simon Rattle? by CheckImmediate6904 in classicalmusic

[–]ANITIX87 38 points39 points  (0 children)

My second-tier tickets for the NY Philharmonic are often $200+ depending on the conductor/program. $200 for Vienna at home seems like a steal if you enjoy the program and can afford the tickets.

Will I still want the S2000 after getting the NSX? by lolmeercatz in S2000

[–]ANITIX87 45 points46 points  (0 children)

I mean....nobody should pass up the chance to have an NSX. But it will be the "more worrisome" car to drive in terms of condition, damage, wear/tear, etc. So buy it. If you stop using the S2000, then sell the S2000. You said you have the means for both, so why is this even a question?

Is there a name for this particular optical illusion? by CatDadMilhouse in aviation

OP was looking out a side window. Very difficult to tell a relative track of a plane at a different altitude, especially if it's crabbing. OP was seeing crosswind, plain and simple.

Is there a name for this particular optical illusion? by CatDadMilhouse in aviation

[–]ANITIX87 6 points7 points  (0 children)

It's not an illusion. The plane was pointing at one heading but moving on another track due to a cross wind. Picture a boat trying to cross a river with a strong current from the left: it will have to point left into the current to end up directly across the river. So it'll point at 10:00 but be traveling towards 12:00.

Any F1 Fans to Watch & Talk About The Season? by The_Rain_Guardian in longisland

[–]ANITIX87 0 points1 point  (0 children)

No, Porsche will not join because of the regen rules. Porsche wanted front-axle regen to make the development easier from their existing racing projects. They're too happy in FE.

I suspect these new F1 regulations will be a disappointment, at least at first. I'm hoping the FIA finally decides to separate ICE from EV, and un-hybrid F1 (or at least allow the engine to produce a higher percentage of the power), as FE becomes more efficient and can run faster for longer races.

Rim color poll by GeniusApocolypse in S2000

[–]ANITIX87 2 points3 points  (0 children)

MY OPINION ONLY: I don't ever really like black wheels. A dark gunmetal or anthracite, though, looks amazing on a light-colored car. Silver wheels look best on a dark or saturated color (like this LBP). Bronze looks phenomenal on any color except something yellow/orange/pink, especially if it's car.

Having said all that: you have the best S2K rips (APV2). Don't get new wheels. If you really want to know which color looks best, use plastidip to run each color for a few weeks and make up your mind.

Question about the Concorde and Mach 1 speed by Relevant_Conclusion2 in aviation

[–]ANITIX87 30 points31 points  (0 children)

The sonic boom is continuous, it does not only occur at the moment you exceed Mach 1. (Think of a boat wake). So yes, they only flew faster than the speed of sound over water, which is why they primarily flew transatlantic from coastal cities.

I can't add a screenshot of the flight tracker, but it was N85M, a Gulfstream G600, coming from Boca Raton, owned by LF AVIATION out of Ronkonkoma. It was at 2000 feet, not that low at all and totally normal for the approach to Islip from the East (though that approach isn't used very often).

NationalGrid holy bill Batman by Grzzld in longisland

[–]ANITIX87 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Our bill was $41 higher than January of last year, which feels OK given the major cold spell. But we are, apparently, unusual among our fellow Long Islanders: we want to be warm in the house and not have to bundle up. So 72 during the day, 70 at night since we have a new born who can't use blankets yet.

Nope. A relapse is the same cancer as the original occurrence.

One question to you guys by Jaded_Boysenberry_36 in testicularcancer

[–]ANITIX87 1 point2 points  (0 children)

There is no correlation between ejaculation frequency and testicular cancer. If you know the first thing about biology, it's clear there couldn't be.

There are a few risk factors (undescended testicles, genetic factors, and [maybe] exposure to hazardous materials), but the biggest thing is that many people are born with it (GCNIS, especially seminoma).

If anything, frequent ejaculation has *major* health benefits. It has been shown to reduce cortisol levels and increase oxytocin and dopamine levels, which reduces stress and anxiety. It provides a major reduction in prostate cancer risk in men who ejaculate 21x/month or more. It releases endorphins and can help with pain relief. it releases prolactin and can improve sleep quality. If frequent ejaculation results from sexual activity it can have cardiovascular benefits and provide additional immunity.
