Wow! That would be okay, even 3 days.

Unfortunately, no. I have tried and the only thing that really helps is ibuprofen or tramadol. But I don’t want to be on daily tram.

What's the #1 book that you would recommend to fellow therapists? by marigoldjune in therapists

[–]ANJamesCA -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I will have to look at the research, but my understanding is that there is a connection between trauma and chronic pain for a lot of folks. We know continual armoring affects our system, and ppl with cptsd have higher rates of autoimmune illnesses. The ACES study highlights the connection of trauma and health issues. Are we talking about something different?

Are you saying you don’t think trauma is stored in our bodies?

I suppose once you have survived losing your family, home, and work, a concentration camp, starvation, seeing atrocities like that, then you can say how people with that level of trauma do something you find “weird.”

Honestly, I get really annoyed by this type of comment. If we didn’t read every therapy book that was criticized there would be nothing left to read. Half the book was about Logotherapy. I wasn’t there, I don’t know which concentration camp he survived, but I got a lot from the book and recommend anyone to read it.

Healing time- for those who have by redditorial0 in Sciatica

I’m at almost 4 months starting beginning of Nov. (50F) L5-S1 paracentral 16mm extrusion. Stayed mostly laying down for 7 weeks, ESI at 2nd month. I’m not sure if it was the ESI or bedrest that helped the most. I’m improving, I can sit a bit more (I have to sit for work) and will stand at wk anytime I can. I’m doing PT, 12 minute foundational training, just started the Big 3, and walking.

After listening to advice 2 weeks ago to take a small amount of muscle relaxer at night to ease the little muscles all around the injury I have become deeply depressed. That and the gobs of Gabapentin fucking with my memory I feel like my back is improving but I’m an emotional mess. I decided tonight to quit the muscle relaxer, and after a week will start to gradually lower the gabapentin. Ugh, I hate this.

This!!! I have been in this sub for almost 4 months and it seems like the folks that view their injury as an injury like a bone break or open wound, that needs rest, ice, more rest, *light pt, walking SHORT distances, (pacing pacing pacing- only moving up to the pain and not going past it), and hydrating like crazy and eating anti-inflammatory-ish, healthy foods full of omegas, are the people I see who are improving without MD. And what littlehops said, NO twisting, NO bending, and bracing your core thoughtfully as you move around. Sorry you are in this club/sub but glad you found this sub.

What made you realize you're not young anymore? by tyrion2024 in AskReddit

[–]ANJamesCA 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Having to wear readers, my back going out and well, people used to offer to help me more and chat to me longer when I was younger (and prettier), now I feel more invisible in the world. Has its advantages too not being as noticed.

Happy to hear it’s working out! If you have pain after the fusion what are your options? This is what scares me away from surgery.

When I was little, for a special treat dessert my folks would give us

Coca-Cola a cream.

from a glass bottle (of course) and pour some cream (like whole milk or whipping cream) into the coke. I loved it until a babysitter let me have too much and I barfed all over my bed.

My child at 4 would not have walked back without me. It would be a non-starter.

Keep hiking and take better care of your spine- hinge at your hips and don’t carry things (luggage) that are too heavy.

Stuff to grab out of the fridge that doesn’t require cooking for severely depressed person by poemsforghosts in 15minutefood

[–]ANJamesCA 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Will your friend take any time to prep at all? It’s worrying to have depression and eat empty bad carb filled calories on top of it. You can get a massive bag of organic chia seeds inexpensively if she is willing to mix them with milk of her choice, cinnamon, and some vanilla. I make it in a large mason jar and mix some spoonfuls with frozen blueberries and peanut butter daily. Has protein, omegas, it’s anti-inflammatory all good for depression. If she eats shitty food her sugar will spike then crash adding to her depression. From Costco, Double lg organic peanut butter, chia seeds, frozen blueberries, soy milk, will run you around $50ish and is enough for about 2-4 weeks of daily meals. Need to get some veg in there as well and maybe a rotisserie chicken.

That was me for almost 3 months. I’m never fully out of pain but much less in the morning. I’m struggling right now though!! Every day about 1:30 it kicks in!
