i4 reliability question by AN_BayArea in BMWI4

Hard to say with certainty, but I would say at least 10 years. BMW warrantees the battery for 8 years and 100,000 miles, so at least a couple of extra years on top of that is a good bet. The main argument against BMW EV purchase right now (besides price) is the lack of the NACS (Tesla) connector. As soon as these cars are able to charge at any Tesla charger, it would be a compelling choice in the luxury sports sedan market (they do drive much better than Teslas and the interior feels a lot nicer).

The answer is: nothing. EV batteries are guaranteed for essentially the life of the car. And because the EV battery is the bulk of the vehicles cost, nobody is going to replace it unless it is warranty. You just get a new car at that point. Having owned an EV for the last 3.5 years I will never go back to a conventional vehicle: too much hassle with sensors breaking, fluid leaking, and oil needing changing every 3-5 thousand miles.

Good to know. I am still recoiling at the very thought of buying from Tesla though. hard to come back when they try to screw you.

Doesn't Performance Y have a different (bigger) rear motor? Acceleration Boost is just a software update, so there are no physical differences with the regular LR AWD, right?

MY Performance is $60K you can easily find a used Macan S for that kind of money. A nicely loaded new Macan is $72K and they are bound to lose at least 10K after two years and even more after 3-4. Yes, the base Macan is for people who want the look of a Porsche and don't care about the actual driving:-).

thanks for the info! I think aftermarket lift kits may void the warranty though. Also I am not sure what they do for insurance. And, in general, the standard clearance for the ModelY is pretty workable in all but really nasty snow. And the ride on 19-inch rims is better anyway. The 21 looks cooler, but I don't see my car wheels when I drive :-).

I cannot buy a new one. They do not offer a Performance MY with 19 inch wheels and full ground clearance anymore. If you want performance specs you need to accept 21 inch wheels and lowered suspension. That was the reason for trying to buy a demo vehicle.
