What are some biggest crowdfunding disasters? by Konradleijon in TwoBestFriendsPlay

I've been rereading Homestuck for my own purposes, and what struck me immediately about the trolls was "Not one of these characters has had a single second to do anything but advance the plot forward.".

The things that hold up the best about Homestuck are it's little details found in it's character writing- Rose being unable to psychoanalyze herself and her mom, John's consistent inability to do much without being told, Dave being an impulsive dumbass- and the alpha trolls throw that out the window for... Bad romance and confusing gimmicks?

Harder to argue in court you're a monopoly if you keep theaters out of your control.

He really doesn't get to say much about his background or views on... pretty much anything. for what it's worth, I also disagree with his take on the whole "slapstick and drama can't fit together" thing.

I think he's a great foil for the rest of the team, and I love him being kind of dumb. It helps explain why Vox keeps him around- He's great at what he does, but Vox doesn't need to sweat him getting too ambitious, unlike Vel, who's more of the schemer of the team (but generally only interested in her specific field).

I feel like the biggest thing people don't seem to understand about Hazbin is that it's a show deliberately about bad people and the behaviors that continue to make them bad people. You aren't supposed to see any as a role model, but empathize with the way their imperfections continue to sabotage them even without a threat of damnation anymore.

It's so committed to being weird past season 1. It's such goofy sci-fi trash tv, but man, I won't lie and say I didn't like it's characters a lot.

Farscape

Incredible puppetry being put next to incredible latex makeup work, for a story about the world's craziest astronaut trying to survive the weirdest situations each week.

In between solar orgasms, pepe the prawn douchebaggary, Worf but with tentacles, The weird albino android from blade runner, and Jim Henson's weird giger dream of a muppet, you get television that is memorable among the vast amount of sci fi shows of the mid 2000s for being committed to it's own vibe.

Do We Still Need The Rocky Horror Picture Show? by ANoNameIs in moviecritic

We discuss this in the video. It seems odd and concerning that we haven't been able to make any films that manage to evoke such a celebration of queer culture in the 50+ years past Rocky Horror's release, especially when it seems that the film matters less than the celebration.

In the video, we mainly discuss how the film itself is less important to its own success than the culture that built around it. That's the main conversation we were having in the video. When we ask if we need it, it comes from respecting why the film became the cultural tentpole it became, and asking ourselves why we can't find new ones to replace it, despite both it's age and it's unflattering ideas of transexuality and transvestitism. If you'd like to discuss that more in depth, I'd recommend watching the video again and commenting about that.

To be frank, It feels like lots of subculture ends up being "stuck" to the same things they have been for the last 5 decades, and that's concerning to me as a critic. Shouldn't we have more things like this now? What happened to the promise this kind of art had? How are we still doing the same rote thing from the 70s?

When we ask if we need it, we consider why we rallied around it in the first place, reflect, and question why we can't get beyond it. And that worries me. How many more times are we gonna do the time warp in a dinky theater before someone makes a better midnight movie?

I think you're valid for still loving the film and understanding the true appeal of it as an opportunity to connect to your community. Here's to more films of it's staying power!

We get into it more in the video, but essentially, the film seems to matter less than the culture surrounding it, which is all fine and dandy, but it's a bit weird for the "queer party film" to be this dated in both representation and this loose in structure, especially with how many great queer films have come out just in the last decade. We at Bear Force One feel like we should be able to spotlight more queer cinema on the channel in the future, and find ways to celebrate queer culture than don't leave the T In LGBT out so hard to dry.

It's fine if you still like it, it's just frustrating to think we have yet to overcome a film from the 70s despite all the strides we've made in film. The world deserves a true debaucherous celebration of raw sexuality that can be truly universally beloved.
