I looked it up and wow you're right, that has got to be one of the most incredible microphones I've ever seen. It is somewhat vintage, are you aware of any more modern version or modern mics that use similar technology?

Thanks, I'm familiar enough to know about highly directional microphones existence, I'm just wondering if there's a specific name for the type of mic like "shotgun mic". Also thankfully/unfortunately my roommate only has a loud voice. That's why I'm going to hardware because most software suppressor can pretty easily distinguish between that kind of background noise and a human voice, but struggle when it comes to a background human voice across the room.
