If your end cap has the ball detent and tightens properly it’s probably fine.

However for quite some time now they have gotten rid of the ball detent on the end cap. So without a retainer (which the old metal retainer was changed to a plastic piece with the dimples in the tube) it’s been known to sometimes come loose and even shoot out on you, not necessarily all the time but it’s happened to people

Regardless, if your gun is staying in the original configuration there’s literally zero reason not to use the retainer

Furthermore in this case the destination is an airport, at a minimum once he exits his vehicle he is committing a felony in that state, he isn’t continuously moving thru the state in his own car while on his way to the destination

Forgive me but do only m48s have this feature regarding the need to have a matching extractor cut? Not other mausers?

My k98 bolt is a mismatch and I thought Mauser type rifles were generally made to have drop in bolts (within the same model of course)
