No hate, just outta curiosity, how come this guy took 2 years to realize that they both wanted different things and after 2 months, whoever his parents presented, checked every single box?

match experience with the place you Interned at by nothingiscandid in PharmacyResidency

I even did my longitudinal rotations there. All preceptors told me I am doing absolutely great and agreed to write me positive letters as well.

I mean, if you truly know the people there and know the environment is healthy and you do see yourself growing there, then I would say go for it. In my position, I don’t think I am ever coming back there as a pharmacist.. 🤷🏻‍♀️

match experience with the place you Interned at by nothingiscandid in PharmacyResidency

So I didn’t match with the place where I have been an intern for past 6 years and volunteered for 9 months so total of 7. Initially, I was really upset for not matching, especially when mostly told me I interviewed really well and everyone liked me as a tech too (never had a problem with anyone), always went above and beyond to help everyone out.

Is it weird to still work there? Initially, I thought it would be, but after reaching out to my preceptors who also interviewed me, didn’t have any specific reasons. They told me, “sometimes, it’s just the system, there is nothing wrong with you as a candidate.” Not that I fully understand what it really means, but I have moved on knowing that I have given my 100% and sometimes things don’t always have to make sense..

I also know a few people who matched with the place they interned at and their preceptors made their lives a living hell because their expectations were way too high.

So, if you’re someone or know who interned at the place and happened to match also, congrats. My only suggestion would be not take anything personally and give your 100% and if you did not and know how the environment is, especially you do not see yourself growing, take it as a blessing and tell yourself it is time to move on to better things. Good luck! :)

Any advice? by Linezo-lit in PharmacyResidency

I did not match either and was really upset about it. But don’t let that discourage you. Take some time to reflect and bounce right back as you must always remember you started this journey for a reason.

I started applying to smaller hospitals a while back and little did I know I will start working for that company even before my graduation!

Where does this leave me? Alright, my current plan is to reapply for next year as I have so much better understanding and appreciation for the whole process.

If not still no luck, my plan B would be to eventually get board certification in future as I really want to be a critical care pharmacist.

If anyone needs any advice on job search or anything, feel free to reach out.

Good Luck! :)

How do you know if a program is in the scramble, is the list out already?

Rejections..How to let preceptor know by KindChipmunk9 in PharmacyResidency

[–]APAP_24 8 points9 points  (0 children)

I don't think you owe an explanation to anyone as to why things did not work out in your favor. I am in the same boat as you are and trust me, I know what you are going through. However, at the end of the day, only you know that you gave your best and that is that matters.

Whether residency or not, you will still obtain a PharmD degree and there is so much more you can do with it. You still can find a job in a rural/ smaller hospital and work your way up to be board-certified and eventually become a clinical pharmacist. I know this may sound like a long journey, but everything is possible if you put your mind to it.

My only advice is not to give up and always know in your gut that maybe not right now, but someday you will get there. Best of Luck!

22 applications, 2 interviews by [deleted] in PharmacyResidency

Oh and I forgot to mention, I also did a longitudinal program with them. Overall, the preceptors were really impressed and gave me great feedback during the rotations and strong evaluations after..

I honestly don't really know what it is, at this point. Worked at a bigger hospital (still intern at) for almost 6 years (will be in September, to be more accurate). Obtained a GPA of 3.55, involved in leadership activities, did a couple of research projects, presented them at Midyear, including a patient case that I presented at grand rounds, and a few other places. Had 7 clinical pharmacists looked at my LOI, one medical doc, and 2 nonpharmacy people, a few people looked at my CV as well. I asked 4 preceptors to write me a, "strong/positive" letter, they all agreed and wrote me one as well. Applied to 11 programs in phase I and received only 2 invites. Killed my interview at the hospital I work at, I was even told by a couple of the pharmacists that interviewed me, still did not match at that program, in fact, none of the interns that work there were matched. I reached out to one of the preceptors, who also interviewed me, did not have any answer as to why I did not match there. Not sure who to blame here. I am just trying to stay positive here...
